Boston vs Utah for Hayward

Here in Boston the sports radio crowd basically think it's a done deal. Hayward is coming to Boston. In my humble opinion, these are the only two real options for Hayward. Below is my attempt to create a list for why he chooses Utah or Boston over the other.

Why Utah...

-MONEY
-Already made is home here with is family and a connection to the community
-It's relatively close to his second home in San Diego
-He trust's the coaching staff and development he receives
-Likes Quin, players and the system
-Boston is much colder than Utah
-Doesn't like the idea of playing with Isaiah Thomas, as he has to dominate the ball
-Will be hard for him to turn his back on Utah, he knows he will be hated forever

Why Boston...

-Obviously, has a connection with Brad Stevens
-See's the Celtics with a brighter future (already good, cap space, multiple lottery picks)
-Figures LeBron is aging and over the next 5 years and it will be easier to get out of the eastern conference
-Larger market
-As David Locke says he has no bad blood with a new team (still seems hurt by the last contract/Charlotte situation)

When I weigh these options to me they seem fairly even, but then the MONEY factor comes in and tips the scale in Utah's favor.

Being coupled with another superstar (who's locked in long-term) who complements you and does not compete with you for shots or anything and makes you better.

I wont cry if he leaves. I think its a ***** move, but a lot of NBA players are doing it.

Even though I think it's a chump move to leave, on one hand I know he had a great run here, and loves the fans/state.

I wont boo him or think too poorly of him.

I think he stays. But If he leaves I'll boo him during games.

After next season, Boston will have to resign Thomas, Bradley, Smart... I could see smart leaving but Thomas will get 25-35 million a year? Bradley 18-25 million a year? Mix that in with a maxed out Hayward 33 million a year, maxed out Hortford, who will be 32 making almost 30 million a year, Crowder at almost 8 million a year, mixed with there lotto picks. I just can't see how Boston can keep everyone?

Also, why would Hayward want to leave Utah to go be a 2nd or 3rd option?

So I think he looks at Utah, sees the injuries, sees that Boston might be a rebuild in 2-3 years and stay in Utah! Also, didn't he just buy a new house in Utah?

I sure hope he stays but I honestly think a lot, depends on all NBA. If. He's all NBA and Utah offers him a max deal. I sure hope, it doesn't include any options! Whoot whoot, Hayward for the next 6 years!

One thing we can forget about is he need to make ALL NBA team to make full potential of dollars. He can only make this in Utah Jazz. My thought is Hayward want to leave and make it to Boson in pansy east coast, but earnings are too much to not see in the Utah. Thank for listen my thoughts. Thank you.

This!
His best option is actually to opt in and see what's in store next summer.

The question is; Giving Hayward that much Money, will we be able to keep a roster to contend in years to come?
Maybe we can try a three way trade? Hayward to boston, Butler to utah, draft pick to Chicago, and some players... Is this possible by any chance?

this is actually an interesting idea in principal.

If he leaves Utah for less money somewhere else? I will absolutely boo him!

Don't put capspace on Boston's side. The moment they sign Hayward is the moment they become in the exact same situation we are in with multiple high impact free agents in 2018.

Worse capwise... have to re-sign Bradley, Thomas, Smart next year... Olynk this year.

Asset wise they are loaded unfortunately.

This is not coming down to money. This is about him putting himself into a situation that will make him, his wife and his kids happy. Both teams have a pretty good looking future. Unfortunately Boston has a team full of good dudes, not boneheads. I hope I'm wrong but I think the lure of becoming a Celtic and a change of scenery might prove too tempting. He's probably agonizing over the decision.

Good post and I agree.
The money keeps him in utah.

Plus gobert being signed for the next 4 years should be another deciding factor.

And then pay Butler the same kind of money? What's the difference?
