Breaking News, Deron stays with the Nets

What a disloyal little piece of **** he is.

This implies that Deron had some reason to feel loyalty to the Nets, and I don't see why he should owe them anything, whatsoever.

Honestly, this had nothing to do with loyalty. I'd say it shows that so far, the new CBA is having some of the impact the owners had hoped for.

Interesting that he's going the five year route this time instead of the three year route with Utah. Utah was much, much better than Brooklyn is currently, so I'm wondering what the real reason for taking three years was.

LOL... Those guys who were flaming on Billy King.. Where are they now?!?!

He has done part of his job, he has built up a lot of excitement and got a star player for the team's inaugural season in Brooklyn. Now lets see if he can fill out a roster with his hands tied by salary cap. Then lets revisit this topic after about 30 games next season.

I felt just like Deron last month. This other company stepped in and offered me a job in Elko for about 20% less than my current rate, the other company came hard at me, telling me how they were a leader in their industry back in the 90's and they showed me how stable the company was with its entrenched management. My current boss offered me a 20% raise, the corner office and final say in all hiring decisions. In the end I decided to stay with my current boss, I'm a loyal guy.

He wanted out of here. He wanted the quickest route out of Utah after he got the big payday second contract.

He wanted to keep his options open in the event a small-market team like Utah couldn't keep competing with the best teams in the league...and he wanted to maximize his earning potential. A 3-yr max extension, then opt-out and resign for a longterm max before he hits 30. Now he will be 33 (instead of 35) when this contract is up which likely is still young enough to earn another sizeable contract at that point.

BTW, King owes KOC big time. When Dwill was traded, nobody thought the Nets had a chance to keep him. KOC, who is ordinarily complementary or silent about players made it known to the media that he and the jazz believed Deron would play for 3 or 4 teams and multiple coaches. I believe this was a calculated move arranged by KOC and King to play on Dwills anger at the jazz and his ever present drive to prove people wrong to set the stage for Dwill to prove KOC and the Jazz wrong, that he is a loyal guy.

Of course the extra 30 Million might have also helped.

For the record, I still think the Nets are a lotto team and they're not going to get D12 with the junk they have left (do they even have anything?)
They had no offense last year and if they don't get Lopez (who they have little money for) they're going to have no defense. DWill is effective if you have someone he can pass to (Boozer, anyone?). JJ is an iso player which is why he was good in Atlanta. Gerald is declining. Avery Johnson is definitely not the coach he was in Dallas either. And...you can't win a game without a bench and Reggie Evans.
Don't think they're going to be a powerhouse, it's just media hype.

Have not read through this, but I know many were hoping he would leave to prove some point. Never understood this. I'm happy he is on the east coast for good. I will say I don't like this super team bs that's going on as I think it brings the nba too close to MLB. I hope that the magic deal Dwight to anyone but the the nets. The nets will never be able to sign him as a fa.

They're gonna get Dwight. If GW is declining at 29 I haven't seen any evidence of it. Deron, JJ, Dwight and Wallace is a brutal core. Find some guy to spot up 3s and they are set. They have an owner who doesn't care about the luxury tax. Stern would love to have them cover up the mess of the Knicks.

They're going to be fun to root against, same as the cHeat.

Still think they're a lotto team, but I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time.

I'll keep this thread in mind. But honestly don't see how they're going to get Dwight, they have nothing besides their core and Marshon to trade. They could sign B. Lopez....so maybe B.Lopez and Marshon gets you Dwight, but there's better trades out there....

And then you have to pay D12 the max. I know they have money to spend, but that's 2 max but 2 huge contracts for 4 guys. WIthout doing the calculation, they might be over the cap with those 4 right there.

Their offer is Brooks, Brook, Kardashian and as many 1st rounders as they are allowed. 3 I think. Dwight is ruining the Magic's ability to get anything resembling his true value for him by openly refusing to extend with anybody else. The only way the Magic get a better offer is if someone has the hubris to believe they can woo this diva. Which could happen, I suppose.

You're right, you can't have 3 max contracts + a 10 mil one but I'm sure they feel like they'll just figure it out when he gets there. Anyways it's a soft cap and their owner is rich as ****.

I'm just assuming they get Dwight with the offer on the table, yea, but once he's in there he stays. Dwight/Deron/JJ is every bit as formidable as LeBruh + Wade if not moreso. You could say this superteam is practically tailor made to defeat the cHeat. That lineup would bully the F out of Miami's guards while always having that smiling douche Howard waiting to clean up.

They would match up better with the Heat than the Thunder, that's for sure. But I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself, if you think they'd be the favorites in a playoff series.

And it's not a soft luxury tax any more--I believe a $20mil penalty in the old CBA is now a $45mil penalty. I don't know if it's enough to make the Nets hesitate on going over, but it seems as though it's been enough to pressure the Mavericks and Lakers to shed salary.

Think the Nets are firmly a playoff team, likely top-5 but not top-3 unless they can land Dwight - which is still plausible but not probable.

As John Hollnger pointed out tonight, NJ bizarrely using their full midlevel on Teletovic gives them a salary ceilling for this season that they would eclipse if they trade for Dwight...and also limits their ability to take back some of Orlando's dead-weight which takes another perk off the table for the Magic.

Unless Brooklyn doesn't follow through with their verbal agreements, the only way they could still land Dwight would be to resign everyone (Lopez, Humphries, Gerald Green) and hope as time goes by Dwight continues his stance that he won't resign with whatever team (outside of Brooklyn) he is traded to which would scare off other teams. Obviously the window of him going to the Nets will close next year...but a team like Houston, GS or even LA is still taking the risk he could have another mood swing and find another team w/2013 cap space to earmark for his future destination. If that scares off those teams, Orlando would feel pressure to get whatever they can for Dwight at some point before the 2013 trade deadline.

The idiotic thing of this entire fiasco is all Dwight had to do was exercise his PO for this season and he and Deron would both be in Brooklyn right now. He didn't, was either too worried about his public image (which is in the toilet now anyway) or was completely suckered by the Magic (unlikely since he wanted to go to Brooklyn since last summer), or he's just a wishy-washy athlete with very little common sense.

It's a shame, because I would've liked a Deron/Dwight combo far more than any of the others presently in the East.

Anyways it's a soft cap and their owner is rich as ****.
This is Hollinger's point. It's not a soft cap if they spend their full midlevel on Teletovic from Turkey. Luxury tax payers are prohibited from using their $5 million midlevel. If they don't use it and can match salaries for Dwight + other bad-contract, they would have huge penalties but Prokhorov would pay it. If their salary is capped at $74.3 million, they can't really pull it off.

Hadn't heard of the Teletovic signing. Talking heads this afternoon were acting like Howard to Brooklyn was still possible, even likely.

It is odd that the guy's preferred destination would create all these obstacles.
