BREAKING NEWS - Minnesota telling other teams they're taking Enes Kanter at #2 over D-Will 2

The teams that want Williams were formerly only bidding against themselves for the 2. Now Kahn is letting those teams know that teams bidding for Kanter will officially be entering the sweepstakes.

The teams bidding for Kanter WERE ALREADY in sweepstakes. #2 pick allows you to get EITHER Kanter or Williams, not just Williams.

It makes so much sense for Minny to draft Kanter, but I have a queasy feeling that the Jazz blow it and skip Williams. I still my fingers crossed for the cavs to take kanter and knight, so we get irving.

If Wolves really think it is really close, Kanter makes more sense to them, I agree, just because he can step right alongside Love and Beasley without disrupting the team. If they draft Williams, now they need to trade a young 20ppg scorer, further complicating things. That makes sense, of course, if they think DWill is better. But if it is about the same, you do look at your positional need. That's why if reports are that Wolves are considering both seriously and like both really well, there is a good chance kanter is their pick. That's why I think that report of them picking Kanter at #2 might be real.

Agree. If i were anohter GM, i would go ahead and spend the extra 3mins on the phone and ask "ok, so now that we understand where we are with Williams, lets talk about a trade for KANTER." And even as i write that, i would say the conversation is more "we want the 2nd pick and we'll give you this for it" and that is it. When the other Wolves say "well, who ya gonna pick?" you'd say "doesn't matter, I just want #2 and i'll give you a can of pork and beans for it."

In general, Utah and Minnesota are more competitive situation than Minnesota and Cleveland. So maybe this is a pot stirring trick on behalf of Cleveland by Minny for friendly benefits later... Still, i don't see how it means much.

DX updated their mock having us pick Dwill! If we get him, I think I should get repped. It's clearly destiny because of my profile name.

Nobody wants to pay retail. What Kahn is doing is telling everybody they have to pay retail no matter who they want at 2. So teams that thought they could work a deal at 4 to get Kanter now think they have to get the 2. If they come in with good bids for the 2, then teams that were trying to get Williams now have to up their offers.

Kahn smoke screening would make sense. He's been calling teams trying to pry their big men from them (Gasol, Bynum, etc.), so selling a Kanter pick would make sense.

The only team I could see this tempting a trade is Washington. It could be a play for McGee I guess, but what's Kanter without McGee?

Yeah, Kahn's retarded. Nevermind.

I will. IIRC, we were the first 2 to pimp him. He has been in my sig forever it seems

Yeah, I was huge on him before the Tourney. The homer in me naturally soured on him when I thought we had absolutely no chance of getting him. Now that it looks like we may get him, I am getting excited again.

I think Enes at #2 might be for real for 3 reasons.
1) I just don't see the point for the smokescreen at #2 overall. Wolves gain nothing from declaring they are drafting a different player. I think, just like Cavs declared they are drafting Irving, Wolves did the same with DWill. In other words, I don't see any benefit in lying here, so I think if they did say that, they are thinking that right now.

2) Wolves were said to be on the borderline with DWill and Kanter even before this announcement. Since they need C MUCH MUCH more than forward, and these 2 guys are close, in their view, I just think Kanter get the edge, because he plays the position then need the most vs the position they already have a pair of 22 year old 20 point scorers in.

3) Givony, who was very realistic about Kanter and always had him below 6, since he felt Enes was unproven, all of the sudden lists him at 2. So, there has to be something real about Wolves and Kanter, or there is no way Givony would list him so high, after all the reservations he expressed about him.

Of course of all of this could be BS. We will find out tomorrow. But given the information we have now, I keep the hope alive that we will get DWill 2.

Maybe Kanter is the BPA. Maybe? (THAT is not a 'homer' statement, I'm being serious.)

Possible. Williams is definitely not a sure thing. Kanter and Knight both have the ability to become better than Williams. Williams is the safe pick though because no one will blame you if you are wrong.

Starters:
C Al Jefferson
PF Derrick Favors
SF Derrick Williams
SG Gordon Hayward
PG Devin Harris

Bench:
Paul Millsap
Jeremy Evans
CJ Miles
Jimmer Fredette or Alec Burks
Mehmet Okur

WOW!!!

And yes I left out Bell.

Anyone who thinks Minny will pick Kanter at 2 is crazy!! No way they do something that stupid when you have a franchise player like DWill2 waiting in the wings. This would be like passing on Kevin Durrant, knowing that DWill2 could be Kevin Durrant. Why the Cavs aren't taking DWill2 is beyond me?

If the Jazz get this guy, for some unexplainable reason, they should offer up FEZ as a human sacrifice to the Basketball Gods, no questions asked!!! They could throw in Tomic as well.

Wouldn't the best smoke screen be to hype a player since day 1? The Wolves wanted to trade the pick regardless, but probably had Kanter in mind since day one if no worthy offers materialized.

Honestly, I could see David Kahn as a JAzzfanz lurker and doing this solely to **** with us.

It could be but why would they smoke screen 1 day before the draft to see if they could trade out? Seems like they should of did this a week ago. Chad Ford could be wrong but who knows. I mean Wes Johnson and Beasley are extremely young and both talented. It makes no sense to draft BPA.

When you suck as bad as the Twolves, you ALWAYS take BPA.

Durant was passed on for Greg Oden. D Will 2 is no Durant.
