The Utah Jazz have had multiple discussions with teams about a trade involving guard Trey Burke ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned from league sources.

Burke, a third year guard out of Michigan, has missed the past three games against the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans because of the flu.

Burke was picked in the No. 9 overall in the 2013 by the Jazz after a senior season at Michigan in which he was the national player of the year. Utah's second first-round pick that year was Rudy Gobert via a trade with the Denver Nuggets.

Burke swiftly became Utah's starting point guard, averaging 12.8 points per game and making first team all-rookie. Although he lost his starting job to Dante Exum midway through last season, Burke again averaged 12.8 ppg. and played a key role off the bench for coach Quin Snyder.

Burke's role has dwindled this season. He averaged 31 minutes per game in his first two seasons, but is playing just 23 minutes per game this season. He is averaging 11.8 ppg.

Still, Burke has proven he can be an offensive asset in the NBA. His shooting percentage has increased this season, and Snyder has repeatedly lauded him for also improving his defensive skills.

what the hell could we get for him without including Burks or someone else good?

what the heck we gonna do for PG this whole year -- Neto and Green? I dont like Burke that much, but he gives us a better chance to win than just Neto and Green

I think we could get a late 1st. Strong backup pg's and srong backup 5's are always a premium come the trade deadline for teams making a legit run.

Hard to believe we would trade Burke for a late first when he plays our weakest and thinnest position. He ain't great, sure, but like, we can't be choosers at PG right now. who knows

Obviously there are teams that like him and may be could get more out of him than our team which has multiple ball handlers?

Talks for now. I do know Trey has interest

How is the deadline not until Thursday... was there really no games between all-star game and the deadline last year also? I don't remember

This was fairly obvious... If you'd watched trey play the last few games before the "flu" he looked disengaged. Some people thought I was jumping to conclusions but...

I think Trey is going to have a decent Mario Chalmers-type career, but yeah, it's obvious he's in discussions being held out the last 4 games.

Gotta be excited some teams out there are interested in what we Jazz fans perceive to be one of our least valuable asset though?

It's not that, but I don't like getting my hopes up which often happens this time of year. And rarely translates to anything.

I'm going to guess he's worth something around the 16th-20th pick. That's what I would value him at. The dude is a weapon and can score. Plus he's unrestricted and they can match him if another team tries to pry him away once his contract is up.

Think of teams that would actuality want him. What would they be willing to give up?

Burke has improved but if someone gives him $8-10 million in 2017 we simply can't afford him. It hurts us now, no doubt, there will be games Neto only scores 4 points, and who knows what Green is but its probably not much.

Yeah, I think it was The Bucks game where QS let Neto finish the 4th - the look of disgust was etched all over Burke's face.

Burke was cast as the odd man out the day Neto was named the starting PG - clearly the prudent move if The Jazz have any hope or desire to keep their core players together. And with expiring deals not having the value they once had due to the expanding salary cap, might as well trade him now.
