Brexit

Well, I won’t defend its use by anyone. It’s out there for partisans of all stripes to brand perceived enemies and says much more about them than whomever it’s directed against.

I agree it's stupid, but nobody here is using the word, so why are we talking about it? It's not an issue.

I was responding to the poster who used the word here but was either ignorant of its real meaning and current usage as insult or, more likely, just pretending to be stupid.

You're able to scroll up and read. I implied that it was a matter of time before a Trump-supporter like Scat would go around calling people cucks (a tactic generally specific to the neo-nazi wing of America's conservatives). It has the racial imagery of white America letting themselves be ****ed by left America, as represented by a black male.

Why is assimilation so bad? I've seen you speak out against national pride, but somehow cultural pride is so much better?

Why do you speak in simplistic generalities? How on earth can we simplify national pride to one simple thing? Wtf are you even talking about. I'm insanely proud of my Canadian identity, and my Albanian heritage-- look no further than the first post of the Euro 2016 thread. But, of course, here comes the 'nuance' that ppl on the right seem to be so allergic to: national pride is a spectrum, and differs both in extents and ramifications from scenario to scenario.

White people can't have dreads because they're white and from Ohio? ****, we better ban archery hunting so we don't culturally appropriate the Native Americans, right?

Black hair is a complicated issue that you clearly show zero desire in understanding. I bet you have zero ****ing idea the lengths that black women go through in order to "whitify" their hair, thanks to employers and attempts to climb the rungs of socioeconomic status.

Let's be honest...if this is what we have to bitch about, then life isn't too bad. There are so many bigger issues out there, but this is what y'all wanna spend your time on.

Let's be honest, you shouldn't patronizingly insult an issue you clearly don't ****ing understand, and show zero desire to understand.

And Dala, there will always be those in power and those who are "powerless". It's not going away. You're just trying to switch who's in power.

You're right-- I'm trying to make those in power not be represented as one racial and/or cultural bloc who's very actions destroy and hinder the livelihoods of the powerless just because of their different racial groups. And I'm not ashamed of that.

a total **** post, if I'm being honest

You are of course, aware that you were the one who brought up the word, right? If pointing out a fact makes something a **** post, then yes, it was a **** post.

I understand why you wouldn't like the word. I called it stupid myself. But still, nobody has used it yet (save yourself). Clearly you have different time commitments than me, but I don't really have time to rant about a word that nobody has used yet.

Fwiw, it's pretty ironic of you to use the "people like scat..." line. Had he said something like, "it's not long before people like Dala blow up the board", I can't imagine you would have liked it. You're doing the same thing.

You didn't actually answer any questions tho...you're trying to make this an emotional debate. Just answer the questions.

FWIW, "Why is assimilation so bad?" is probably the whitest post ever typed out on these forums.

Behind Joe, I'm not sure there's a poster who enjoys false equivalencies as much as you do.

You're allowed to make whatever analogy you want, but when someone else does it's a "false equivalency?" IMO, cultural appropriation makes sense as a real issue when it involves sacred ceremonies, etc. When applied to things like pop music and dancing (I'm not going to even mentioning applying it to anything originated by a Caucasian male because that would clearly be a "false equivalency") it becomes ridiculous and nothing more than a tool to create conflict and anger.

In regards to the Timberlake tweet, how cool would it have been if the responses were instead, "Thanks for the support, Bro," because it's obvious that was his intent.

Even if true, it was rural people voting to leave and urban people voting to stay, so it would make sense that it was the same areas. But obviously would mean one caused the other.

This is beyond stupid. It's the people who are mad, and the people who voted for Brexit. The cows have not been given their innate natural bovine rights yet, and are of course "owned" as chattel property still, and have no vote. I'm sure if justice were extended to them, they would also be mad enough to vote for Brexit.

In the EU, human beings will have no more rights than the cows.

I heard the EU was the cow's idea.
