Bridges to knicks

The 2029 and 2031 picks could easily be lottery picks. It's 2024. The new CBA isn't going to allow a team to be that kind of good for 5-7 years. And now that the Knicks have exhausted a bunch of their asset base, it's going to be hard to pivot when things go sour.

2027, 2029, 2031....those three picks could definitely be fruitful ones
Also, the Knicks already burned through their prospects at the deadline for their splurge on OG and Bogey.

Still that is all speculative value. My post was merely to contrast the general consensus that they overpaid.

People often overlook players going the other way and focus on the amount of picks. Jazz fans should know better thanks to the Donovan trade.

Yeah, you can say on surface this is more than the Donovan trade because of the picks. But obviously we got some solid players. Even if Lauri didn't improve at all he was still a valuable starter on a good team. Sexton was still a 24 ppg player in his last season before missing a year with injuries. There was plenty of value and things to like with those guys. Bojan is a solid player but also 35 years old and getting close to being done if not already. He didn't do much for NY.

And despite not panning out for us, Ochai was a lottery pick fresh off the draft.

They don't have their own pick until '28. They won't be (deliberately) tanking, I'm sure they'll load up on various fairly good players and put a team out there that will try to challenge for a play-in spot.
They got their pick back. That was what I was responding to.

Hmm, how did that happen? It's Houston owning the Nets '25 pick, not Knicks (they do own the 2nd round pick, though).
There are a couple of posts in this thread with the details. They made a trade with Houston to get their 1st round pick back.

Affirmative. Basically, the deal is Nets got their picks back from Houston (owned and swap rights) in exchange for Phoenix's picks originally owned and Dallas picks in 29 plus a swap. In one night, Marks out Ainged Ainge and set his team up right and proper for a good tanking while having a couple of young players left to play with. Got to admit, that was some good work. Apparently, Houston wants Durant (not sure why, but okay).

Follow up deal predictions… DFS to Sacramento for 13 and Huerter or maybe Barnes… can Johnson to Philly for 16. Brooklyn maybe adds something to the Kings deal.

Nets got no 2024 picks in the deal and I think it’s because they will get some in follow up deals.

Could also see something around Collins 10 and Johnson or DFS… which is not my preference and would throw some cold water on the stealth tank.

I don’t see how you see this and can’t at least consider trading Lauri for picks now. We’re not going to be able to “big game hunt” with the picks we have right now. So unless our pick this year turns into a Donovan Mitchell like star immediately, Lauri is going to spend his prime with us being the lone star. And all that means is being a lotto team that isn’t drafting high enough to actually improve.

I’d seriously consider trading Lauri and going for broke with picks. Hoping to draft our way back into contention by 2028. We aren’t going anywhere anyway. Might as well go young and play the long game.
I'm down
