What's new

Bruno Caboclo... the next Giannis?

Him and Rose then went on to make snide comments about the pick they agreed they didn't know much about. It's douchey IMO. You can you are surprised they took that guy there because you didn't really follow his play coming up to the draft at all. They did that and it's fine. When Rose makes the point that he would take the latest 2nd rounder over this guy 150% of the time it just looks bad IMO. I get that's what he and Simmons do. I just think it is really dumb. Both will laugh at this pick if this kid busts for years down the road. If the kid succeeds then they probably won't ever mention their initial stance. I hate that about most analysts TBH.

Simmons admits being wrong about certain guys in his articles on grantland fairly often.

7'7" Wingspan... If hes a SF thats the biggest ive ever heard. If hes 6'8 thats quite a difference.

Giannis' wingspan is (was) 7'3", Durants 7'4".. I bet Toronto thinks he can play PF.

doesn't look like he needs to go far to dunk the ball...

I see alot of people fighting over if this kid looks slow or not... what do you think Jazzfanz?

I like what i see in this video.. His feet look quick 15 seconds in, after the free throw.

Can't tell. Looks like he gets blown by a couple times, but maybe he just lets it happen because he can still block any shot within 5 feet of him.

I don't know how fast he is, but his arms are long as ****.

His offense gonna be really ****ty doe. Really ****ty.

Heres an interesting bit on why some of the Raptors fans are killing this pick.

Masai Ujiri is the director of the NBA's basketball without borders program, and some feel like he kind of made this pick to give some attention to that program. Caboclo was the MVP of the basketball without borders tournament/camp in 2013 and apparently Ujiri has repeated the words 'basketball without borders' ad naseum.

This is the guy who drafted Kenneth Faried 20th though.

I think Caboclo develops into a PF, I see him blocking many shots.

He is durant bro..... you know the scoring champ year after year?

This dude will be a better scorer than durant by far

Im comfortable going against the consensus that this kid is a SF. Hes a new age PF.

he doesnt just have long arms, thats not enough to have a 7'7" wingspan at 6'9", hes got broadshoulders.

Ujiri has said they will put him on a diet plan right away and he needs to gain weight. I have a feeling this kid ends up absolutely enormous when hes fully developed, and a force blocking shots

Raptors fan here. The reason why Raptors select him was because there were at least two other teams that knew about him and scouted him pretty well, notably the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns. A lot of the picks in the 20s were draft and stash. So, there was a chance Utah might have chosen him at 23 or 35 or Phoenix at 27. Raptors were making a play at trading for 22nd pick if Ennis was still on board at 20, so they can pick Bruno at 22.

I watched a full game on youtube of his club team in Brazil. As for comparison to Giannis, Bruno is more raw. Giannis has a way more advanced floor game. I doubt Bruno will ever develop into that type of player. Bruno is more of a 3-4. His jumper is pretty good right now. Think at his very best, he is a Batum-type, a high end 3 and D player. Or if he gets even bigger, he could be a two way power forward, that can shoot 3's.

Anyway, I was very happy of you guys getting to pick Exum, as small market teams should develop their own superstars. YOu guys finally have a cornerstone player to build around. Thought he had the second most upside in the draft, besides Embiid. More selfishly, he's not going to play much against eastern conference teams. Good luck to you guys.

Good post. Thanks. To me, in the few highlights I saw, he did appear quite explosive, moreso than Batum anyway.

This thread kinda makes me wish the Jazz got him, lol. My top three sleepers for the draft right now:

Elfrid Payton
T.J. Warren
Bruno Caboclo

Any of you guys have some sleepers in the 10-30 range?
