What's new

Burke and Kanter's future on this team.

I think we are stuck with Burke for this year. As much as I love Exum, the start Exum crowd is delusional, and there's really no point in trying to improve through trade right now, unless you prefer the #8 pick over the #5. If that's you, **** off, especially if you want to give up a pick to do so.

I also believe the Jazz will keep Kanter, but I wouldn't rule out a trade. Honestly, unless Utah comes across a deal they just can't turn down, we probably keep both players.

I believe we also keep both players- Kanter may be better off first big off the bench.

kanter can be a good bench player. trey can be a ok bench player. His defensebis just.... atrocious. It doesnt matter how hard he tries. His speed, quickness and length cant't be improved.

My guts tells me that Kanter is gone, maybe even this year. It's sad because I do like the guy. I've noticed he's been trying a lot harder the past 10 games or so. When the Jazz are sucking it up hard Kanter is the one liable option on offense. Is he a good defender? No. But his effort seems to be improving. And the terrible guard defense is making him look worse than he really is on defense

Burke will stay this year. Exum isn't ready to start and our bench is weak enough as it is. If Trey can improve his defense, mainly his pick and roll, then he'll be a good player and stay with the team until Exum is ready to start.

maybe by next year i want to see this starting line up

trey
exum
hayward
favors
gobert(i know, it's big if)

exum can be like dragic - a true combo.

IMO, trey will be a jazz for years to come. if he doesn't get better then we can simply put him in the bench. we need a ball handler with our 2nd unit anyway.

i just don't think kanter will be in our future. kanter is our trading bait.

I think PG is Exum's true position and the longer we wait the harder it will be able to see if this is true. Is he ready to go now? No but I think playing SG is keeping him from producing more. Kid has great vision, the problem is that we don't have a backup PG to replace Exum if we get rid of Burke. Right now Jazz have a lot of questions and I think Trey and Kanter are who they are. I like Kanter a lot more than Burke but I don't see how we can get "value" for them right now. The problem with trading Kanter is he is a free agent so most teams won't want to trade for him unless they are trying to clear cap space or get under the luxury tax and I don't see too many people screaming to get Kanter.

My biggest problem with losing Kanter is he is showing he can manufacture offense and the Jazz have few players who can do that.

Agree with you.
Exum is NOT ready. It may take him two years before he is. The only sensible trade might be for a veteran PG from a team that wants to dump salaries. But it would have to be a veteran who wouldn't mind gradually giving way to Dante. In terms of a draft pick, I would advocate including Trey + our pick if it allowed the Jazz to move into the top-3.

As for Kanter, I think they'll keep him until they see who they draft. If they get a big, then Kanter becomes expendable and they go after a wing in free agency. If they draft a wing, then they may consider keeping Kanter or trying to arrange a S&T. Why would another team do that? So they don't have to overpay to get Enes.

But who knows? If a contender offers a 1st for either, maybe the Jazz bite.

Its a little shakey right now. Kanter is making strides on offense, but his defense is unwatchable. It's worse than Boozer.

I'd do a Kanter / Biyombo swap in a heartbeat.
Biyombo has an incredible PER. He averages 1.5 bpg in only 14 mpg.

id say the trigger for either to go would be to trade up in the draft for now exum is two years from starting, Neto could come over and show if he can be a bench pg until then burke stays. Kanter does one thing our bench cant that is score....if we try and trade him now we'd probably struggle to get a 2nd rd pick like when philly wanted to move hawes. kanter is a turnstile on defence but playing off the bench with gobert at times might alleviate his poor D.
Id like to see gobert start give him 20-25 mins see what he can do its worth a try at this point

But if he can't shoot the three ball then he will never see the light at the end of Quins tunnel. Just ask Jeremy.

Can imagine what the season would be like if the jazz had won in the the lottery and got Jabarri?

Enes, Trey and Jabarri. First team to 130 wins.

Derek Bodner @DerekBodnerNBA
The man Jabari Parker is guarding is shooting 69.3% when within 10' of the basket, 14.8% better than their season averages.

Kanter will probably be resigned in the off-season. The team needs scorers, and Kanter can score. I expect the Jazz to at least try and unload Burke in the off-season or next season. They'll probably try to go for a cheap vet PG that can better help Exum transition to the starting role.
