Burke Slams Media

Also, on the original topic, Andy Larsen (who was promoted from his Salt City Hoops fansite - which is actually probably the highest-quality of the Jazz fan sites in terms of writing and analysis - to be a writer for KSL) tweeted out a sarcastic comment along the lines of: "Trey Burke has a 2014-2015 highlight reel?" with the link.

I can see both sides here - on one hand, that isn't the smartest move to make as a journalist who will (as Trey pointed out) have to smile and interview you later. On the other hand, I appreciate a biting cut-to-the-heart-of-it analysis from sports media and think that, far too often, everything is a bit too PC and tame. That's a major reason that I appreciate what Simmons (who is clearly Larsen's idol, from his tweets and even the way he footnotes his articles) did with Grantland - it was full of that type of commentary and biting humor.

I agree. The comment wasn't that big a deal. It's not like Burke was under the impression he had an amazing season. Utah's sports media is typically so afraid of upsetting anyone, one has to go to independent bloggers to get any meaningful critique of players' performances. Should Burke be traded to a bigger market like NY, he'll see what people REALLY think of his weekly 3 out of 15 FG performances.

Interesting. I did not hear that. I really think that Burke's days in Utah are limited.

37: mark: (Bolerjack) Do they keep four guards?

Bolerjack: Who is not impressed with Cotton...

Bolerjack: Here's what it comes down to, let's just put it on the table. (paraphrasing)You trade Trey Burke....him...draft picks...money...absorb a contract...for a shooter. They didn't go that way in the draft, passing up Booker, they went big.

Then goes on to say there are too many contracts and he likes these guys signed from the summer league.

Show me ONE post where I have advocated trading Derrick? You can't because I have never said that. I have only surmised, based on all the rumors that LINDSEY has tried to trade him the past 2 years.

I really am flattered that you have such a problem with me.

I'm still waiting for what the board expert in Derrick Favors trade speculation thinks of that comment.

To be fair to Burke, they were being pretty snarky with their comments. It wasn't professional criticism, so I don't really blame Burke for calling the media out.

Honest question: Could their snark really be directed at the fans who didn't think Burke had a single highlight all season?

I did think the remark about the highlight video being a Vine was pretty funny. So Trey, just shut them up by being a good shooting PG instead of an inefficient ball hog. That's all it would take to have us "haters" become Burke fans.

I dont think its about "haters". It's about people being really nice to him when they ask questions in person then being sarcastic dicks on twitter.

Oh, so they should be more consistent in their dickishness to him?

I don't remember jody saying that the jazz WANTED to trade favors. Just that there were rumors of a possible trade. (That rumor could have came from an un-jazz related source like an employee of a different team.... Or it could have been jazz personnel commenting on an offer for favors from another team.)
I find it far more likely he or his "source" made it up. Or were throwing **** out there to see what stuck. I think it was an obvious ploy to get views on his twitter or blog.

Why would I have anything to say about it? I would LOVE for the Jazz and Jody Genessy to stop trying to trade Favors. Maybe I missed it, but has there ever been an absolute denial by Lindsey...a quote with him saying the Jazz have never shopped Derrick and they believe he is an important piece of the team long term?

For the record, I think Favors is underrated and trading him for a "stretch-4" would be a mistake.

Do you deny trade rumors have swirled around Favors for two years? All I've done is give my opinion that I believe the rumors have factual basis. Aren't opinions allowed on this board, or is it just my opinion you live to attack?

But most all jazz fans love favors and hated the trade rumors so I don't see how this turned out good for jody.
Plus allot of people think he looks stupid now because of his rumor.

I don't think it benefited him...... In fact I think he took a hit to his credibility from allot of people. I don't see why he would make it up.

Heaven forbid Burke come here to this website. I think he would have to cry himself to sleep every night! You are a professional athlete, get over it and go play with your millions of dollars.

Or he would look at us as a bunch of lame ****ers with no money no life no motivation and no real understanding of knowledge.

Trey is top 500 in the world at what he does. For Trey: **** all of us haters.

When the blogger resorts to ridicule, he's basically saying "let's all laugh at this guy." And Burke has been the subject of trade talk, and criticism from fans and writers alike. He didn't like the sarcasm at the heart of that ridicule, and let fly himself. Probably always better to have a thicker skin in hindsight, and not jump into the fray. But holding the guy up to ridicule, by implying it should be considered a miracle that an actual highlight reel of Burke exists, that's a cheap shot. I lose respect for the blogger who resorts to cheap shots like that.
