What's new

Burks

1. Play some defense
2. Not get injured
3. Learn how to finish at the rim instead of going for the shot that requires the most amount of english

#3 is his biggest issue (on the court, obviously #2 has been his biggest issue, ugh). He needs to make moves that put him in a good position to finish and not be so reckless. I love the energy but he could learn a lot watching tape of a Kobe or even Hayward for how to attack the rim properly. It might be a deficiency in bball IQ or something but he has a very bad tendency to put his head down and go at the basket only to finally look up, see he has 3 guys around him, then try to weave and bob and chuck up a harlem globetrotters shot or something. That part of his game must improve.

Of course, without fixing #1 he won't see much PT at all, and he really shouldn't if others are better defenders in the same role.

I get what your saying. But I think we need Burks to play well also. I think Mitchell still will be eased in and during that time we need Burks to step up. Maybe this increases his value and we can trade him for another asset.

I should stop smoking, exercise more, probably drink less, do more housework, be kinder to strangers and stop pissing on my neighbours letter box but odds are it ain't gonna happen.

Kid's a career .360 three point shooter and that's after shooting just .329 last season after the long recovery. If we don't get some help at the three position soon, he could surprise everyone and be our answer. Still, he didn't show enough last season for me to be overly enthusiastic about the proposition. To me he shouldn't be any more than third on the depth chart at this juncture i.e. I hope we pick up somebody.

Haha. We will see what happens. Like someone else said his lack of defense could keep him off the court anyways. However, he didn't get to do much last offseason because of the knee and ankle surgery. I think a healthy offseason will do wonders for him.

Hope you're right because he was almost as dynamic as kid D Mitchell when he first got here, just never really put all the pieces altogether.
Locke was talking about mitchell today and saying that it's extremely rare for a guy his height to be a dominant 2 guard and figures he will have to become a good point guard due to his lack of height.
Also said that he thinks the jazz will have him play point guard the rest of summer league since Dante is out. Will be interesting to see how he does in that role.

At least Burks has good size for the position. He was crashing the boards better than ever last year and imo playing the best defense of his career (not saying much) last year too. His offense sucked though. I think that is due to the injuries/drop in playing time and not getting into a consistent role to get into a rythm.

one more thing about Haydouche btw ... when the Celtics were giving him their fun tour and showing him the Celtics tradition blah blah and they mentioned Paul Pierce ... wouldn't any teammate worth a damn have said "you mean the dick who took a cheapshot that ruined my friend's career ??"

Ray Allen was only 6'4 wasn't he? I know its a huge leap...

Idk. I was just listening to Locke talk about mitchell today. He LOVES Mitchel more than most people and he was saying that guys his size rarely ever become dominant great players at the wing.

I'm sure it happens he was just saying how rare it is. Maybe mitchell will be one of the rare ones. Idk.

You should stop being such an obnoxious POS, that's what you should do.

Hey dude your hate mail is awesome. You're probably the kind of house mate that leaves passive aggressive notes for people about doing the dishes and ****. You're right tho I am an arsehole but im not gonna sit here and cheer for a guy that plays **** ball. I hope DL dumps him and his contract as soon as possible.

thanks in advance for your understanding and can you take the bins out this week so i don't have to do it AGAIN.

He has got unique tools tho 6'10 wingspan and the kid is tough.

If no more moves he's in the rotation with Ingles,Hood, and Mitchell, and maybe a little bit of JJ. If they bring in a 3/4 his minutes might tighten up a little bit.

Has anyone made a joke about Burks being our big free agent acquisition this offseason yet?

I have never given up on Burks. I used to think he could contend for the sixth man award, and I still believe he can be our best scorer off the bench this season.

I like Burks and really hope his career takes a more prosperous turn, either in Utah or elsewhere.

I think Locke is on point about Burks, though - I think he's better suited as a 3rd/4th option rather than a top scorer off the bench.

i'd be pleasantly surprised, i've kindof given up on him being a good net + player

Yeah I think you're right about the rhythm thing. I think though that he probably lost a little confidence in his game after being sidelined with the Paul Pierce induced injury and the one before. Think about it, you get in a car wreck, it takes awhile to feel confident again behind the wheel.

I would love to get back a healthy Burks, I hope he is fully healthy. I know he is dying to play. He is a guy who loves basketball and that is a good thing for someone dealing with this many injuries. That is the thing that gives me hope.
