Buying a new car

Should of been an Acura.

I suspect the TSX would be here as well but I was told (by the dealer) that they're largely unavailable presently because of the Japanese Tsunami/Earthquake and I'd have to wait 4-5 months.

Just so you know that I wasn't totally making this up the LA Times did a story on this very issue affecting the car markets recently.

https://www.latimes.com/business/autos/la-fi-autos-buying-20110522,0,5320016.story

The disruptions caused by the March 11 earthquake have triggered "the huge seller's market we are seeing now," Libby said. "The customer has lost all leverage, and that is going to last at least into the fall."

With Toyota Motor Corp.'s U.S. factories operating at just 30% capacity this month because of Japan-related parts shortages and Honda Motor Co. warning that its supply of vehicles is diminished, some of the bestselling cars, including Toyota's Camry and Corolla and Honda's Civic and CR-V SUV, will become scarce.

Toyota and Honda — including their respective Lexus and Acura brands — account for about a quarter of all U.S. auto sales and an even larger share of the retail market.

Analysts at IHS Automotive estimate the industry has fallen millions of vehicles behind its expected global production. Although automakers will work hard to catch up during the second half of this year, ultimately about 700,000 vehicles will never be built because of the quake.

I'll NEVER own another car made by the Ford Motor Family (or Group, whatever the hell it's called). Every Ford, Mazda, or Mercury (now extinct) we've ever owned has been a complete and total P.O.S.

Please don't tell me that. I want a Mazda 3/6 .... and I"m being serious.

I know a lot of people who swear by the Ford Motor Group. I personally hate them. A couple of bad experiences ruined it for me.

Gratz kicky never owned a Mazda but my cousin bought (protege) one before they changed the name to Mazda 6 and she got close to 200k on it before she decided she'd get a new one.

I know late to this thread but my fav cars I've owned are also Acura's but given the cost and my lack of saving money to put any down I've always had to go used and once I got kids I couldn't get a new used family (TL-S) either.
So with that said my sis works at the HR dept @ LHM Chevy so I'm thinking of getting a smaller (fuel efficient) but still sporty looking and 4 door car and the Cruze LT or LTZ seems to fit what I'm looking for. Anybody heard anything on these?

I own a Ford, and as soon as it goes boom, I'll never own another one. Give me foreign cars, baby.

Thanks for the helpful advice and comments everyone. In case anyone was curious how this turned out, I purchased the Mazda MX-5 this weekend. I suspect I'm going to get a lot of Pacific Coast Highway driving time done with it.

I give your props for doing what's right and sticking up for the homosexual crowd and stuff, I just didn't know you were one too. Perfect "Pride Parade" car imo.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. Ford has a small stake in Mazda but their operations are virtually entirely independent. Ford has about as much to do with Mazda as it does with Aston-Martin.

Look up the vehicle in any car review magazine or source of your choice. It's a real driver's car. I honestly feel bad for you if you would be insecure enough to pass on one of the consensus greatest roadsters of all time because you think it might make you look gay.

And seriously, if that's your material I would hope that you don't go for a third comedy night.

First, I couldn't fit in that car. Second, "greatest roadster".....errr and lol... Third, everyone knows the Miata is a girl car.

BTW, my comment was funny enough to get me rep, guy so eat it.

Just wondered if I'm totally alone in this opinion, or whether other people share this view? Is the MX5 a girls car? To me it has nothing manly about it. It looks like something advertised on telly for women (made by Tampax or lillets or someone). If Mazda claimed the car had wings it really woudn't surprise me.

Yea suppose it is a girly car...the girls I know love their MX-5s...although I did see a geezer in a blue done-up mx-5...his rear wheel was out of alignment you could see the wheel wobbling...

Yes it's a girls car (hell - in the facelift they redesigned those lovely little chrome doorhandles into great big plastic lumps because the old ones broke fingernails)

Great choice, girl guy.

I'm going to have agree with Limpy on this one.

Damn it Archie, I wanted to be the first to point out how absolutely effeminate that car is.

I guess Kicky doesn't see himself picking up randoms in The Bay anytime soon.

I guess your comedic timing isn't as TIMEX as you thought.

Sounds like something someone who's butt hurt about buying a gay car would say.

Well with the top down...

Second, "greatest roadster".....errr and lol...

"The 2011 Mazda Miata maintains its position as one of the all-time great roadsters, mixing refinement and excitement in an affordable, compact package." -Edmunds

"The 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a dream, especially for sports car enthusiasts on a budget. It's quick, agile, great on gas and reliable. Plus, the Miata holds its value longer than of its competitors. Because of these attributes, we picked the Miata as the 2011 Best Sports Car for the Money." -US News

"Sell everything and buy a Miata. The most popular sports car in history is still lovable, and it embodies what a traditional roadster should be: light, tossable, and a continuous joy. There have been emulators of this Mazda but no real competitors." -- Car and Driver

I could literally throw dozens more from the autopress. It's not an exaggeration. You're just wrong on that one.

Third, everyone knows the Miata is a girl car.

Funny. According to the JD Powers Demographics surveys 67% of purchasers and drivers are men. It's also the most popular car used in the SCCA, but of course all those guys are girly.

But seriously, there's no such thing as a "girl car." Cars don't have a gender. If we were to assign what is actually a "girl car" based upon purchasing demographics you'd find that most "girl cars" based upon proportion of purchasers are actually large SUVs and minivans. For years the car most heavily purchased by women was the Ford Mustang: which is generally regarded as a classic Detroit Muscle car.

If you've spent any real time driving sports cars you'd know that the biggest performance enemy is weight. If you need a huge car to assert your manliness it doesn't take a genius to figure out what you're compensating for.

BTW, my comment was funny enough to get me rep, guy so eat it.

You can always count on Jazzfanz to love a good gay joke. It's a real classy bunch.
