Buying a new car

He probably didn't realize it at first.

Is there anything worse than an 'adult' male saying, 'lol'? Go JETS!

Nice car Kicky. Don't let the haters bring you down.

While Ford and Mazda have shared light truck and wagon platforms, there is very little crossover on the passenger car side, and none with respect to the Miata.

That being said, as a counterpoint all the Ford hate, I have owned no less than 6 Fords (3 of them Broncos - 2 of the 3 were '89 and '94 models, routinely considered amongst some of the least reliable models offered by Ford) and have only regretted one - a '97 Mercury Mistique (or Mistaque, as my wife refers to it...)

been thinking about a new car, wont be until probably the end of next year, trying to decide if i want a Range Rover or one of those Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio things

there are many fors and againsts

the alfa is pretty similar to my M3 that its replacing except its newer and will have all the problems associated with owning a sports car, (mostly that you get fined all the time and there is really nowhere to drive them legally) but on the other hand they're a hell of a lot of fun to drive illegally. Also practicality, insurance and so on.

And well the rangey is cheaper, easier to run and more practical but i'd be just another A-hole in a 4x4...

Quadrifoglio would be a nice replacement for the M3 for sure, but I'm not digging the interior. Automotive press sure loves the way it drives though. RR sport would be a nice car for your wife or if you need the utility. What about the new X3 M40i? Or the upcoming X3M? Or a used X6M? Or the all new Cayenne? Macan GTS? Hellcat? Golf R with stage 2+ mods?

And is the RR cheaper than the Quad?

whatever i do im gonna take the alfa out for a test drive (whatever car i buy will be second hand, two or three years old so its depreciated a bit.) wont go near the RR Sport, part of the RR appeal is that it is actually usable off road, cause i'm buying second hand the RR will be cheaper, the alfa won't sell in big numbers here and rarity will keep second hand prices up.

I hate all new BMWs they've lost their way which is sad to say, my first car was an e28 5 series and i've always had Beemers, even when i get rid of the M i've still got my classic Alpina. I'm still kinda tempted by the e62 M6 (the V10) but its unlikely and impractical. I've also been thinking about a van which i can use commercially too. anyway i've gotta hit the hay.

The Bronco and Mustang are the only two I would consider buying. I used to have an ‘84 Bronco and loved it! I’m kind of intrigued by the 2019(or 20) Bronco that they’re planning.

I like Range Rovers, but their reliability issues keep me away. They have a cool factor, but I'd take a Land Cruiser over a Rover any day, especially if I planned to own it outside the warranty period. Looking at the RR forums, there are 100s of threads with all kinds of problems and issues. Looking at the LC forums, the 200 series is very reliable, and Toyota overbuilds them to survive 25 years in the desert without any major mechanical repairs. My 200 series has 90k hard miles now, including >10k off road, and the only thing I've fixed was a seeping water pump (water pump and radiator are the two items on the 200 that need replacement after about 100k miles).

I'll probably buy a new 200 in the next year or two and keep my current 200 for a trail rig, but I am waiting to see if the rumored 300 is announced first to see what my options are.
