What's new

BYU Football 2012

For BYU, it's BCS (playoffs) or bust. That's why they hooked up an insta-bowl and 6 easy wins. So anything after 6 wins is just gravvy I guess.

But if you want to make a run like 1984 you have to start out on the right foot. I believe BYU started out ranked that year and it definitely helped them. Bronco has gone on record as saying he thinks it will take 2 undefeated seasons in a row to get the Nat Title shot. Given BYU's increasingly difficult schedule that might not be the case anymore.

I disagree. Having lots of wins and being nationally ranked helps recruiting. It's a lot easier to go from #20 in one season, say, to #10 in the next, then it is to go from #50 to #10.

At this point in time, I just want the season to be over so I can wave buh-bye to Riley.

I'm also starting to think BYU's "great" defense was a result of their opponents.

Yea, the run defense and tackling was really bad again. Play Oregon St and Notre Dame and suddenly the D is middle of the pack again.
They are still good, just not as good as advertised. All the other teams they played suck.

Nelson sucks. Like really really REALLY sucks.

That is all. BYU can't beat any respectable opponent with this crappy offense.

Robert Anae and Max Hall would have this team undefeated. And they really weren't even that good.

Riley is one of the worse passers I've seen in college football. He was the reason why they lost the game. BYU needs a new QB and a new coach.

It was funny listening to the announcers (can't remember if it was TV or radio) talke about Riley's inability to throw the ball. Like there was some secret ailment or something. No, Fellas, he just sucks and can't throw the ball.

A lot of the QB problem is on Doman. He likes to recruit gritty "winners". That's why we have guys like Riley and Kuresa on the roster who have value just not at QB.

I actually think Doman is coming around these last few games as far as play calling. But Riley is just such an idiot with his reads and even when he makes the right read it's usually late and even if it's on time it's usually a bad ball.

As a vocal critic of the play calling earlier in the season, I should also admit that I thought the play calling yesterday was pretty darn good for the most part.

I don't know. How many times did they go play action with Nelson rolling to the backside just to find a defender in his grill for a 10 yard loss? At least half a dozen that I can think of.

I thought it was pretty cool that BYU started a 17 year old running back. Can you imagine his potential when he becomes a junior or a senior? I didn't think BYU did too bad, they could have probably won the game if Nelson didn't miss that wide open pass. It was much more tolerable to watch than the Utah game.

That's not necessarily on the play calling. That's on the blocker of said defender. Although, if the blocker keeps getting beat on that play, eventually you have to stop calling that play.
The final scoring play of ND killed me. They had been setting up that end around for about 6 plays in a row. EVERYBODY knew it was coming, except 10 of BYU's defenders. The one guy was in position to make the tackle, but missed it.

But that's not necessarily the play call. And if it was than half a dozen bad calls is still a huge improvement.
