C.J. Miles' career at a crossroads

Sometimes inconsistency is a hallmark of being young - but sometimes inconsistency is a hallmark of just being inconsistent. There are plenty of players that have been around for years that wrap 2 mediocre games around 1 good one. I think CJ will have that problem throughout his career.

To me that's pretty much the definition of a role player in the NBA. If they were consistent then they are a main part of the team not a role player. Sometimes they are inconsistent because of the varying abilities of their opponent, Sometimes because they are just off, sometimes because the stars of the team are in control and they get less opportunities. This is what CJ Miles is for this team, a role player, if he becomes the consistent and steady player then he will be one of the main pieces. I'm not sure if he has it in him to do that but I hope so as we need help at the wings.

I was encouraged by CJ's performance in the playoffs and hope it was just a stepping stone to being one of our best players on a nightly basis.

Alright, the thing that tells me CJ is getting it is that during the playoffs he got after it on D, he didn't settle for outside jumpers but add some drive to his game. It also looked like he got into the flow of the offense rather than trying to simply get his points.

And he's still talking about those things now.

I think it's the hallmark of being a skinny, immature 18-year old trying to make it in the NBA and grow up at the same time. A few have been able to leap into the NBA from HS. Miles probably should have gone to college. Had he done that, he probably would have been a lottery pick.

I'm glad he recognizes that the Jazz organization has been good to him. IIRC, he stayed in the draft because he had a promise he'd be picked in the first round. Then the Jazz traded their 27th pick to Portland in order to move up. But they picked CJ at 34 and gave him a guaranteed deal, honoring their promise.

He's put on about 20 lbs and grown 1, if not 2 inches from when he was drafted. I'd honestly be surprised if he's not between 6'7" and 6'8" looking at the training camp pics.

Yes, he struggled his first couple of years. And he was overwhelmed when given his first shot at starting at the 2. But look at his third year stats as a 20-yr old and tell me if that's not close to what we'd like out of Hayward this season: 12 mins/game, 48% FG; 39% 3-PT FG. Hopefully Gordon gives the Jazz a bit more in terms of points/per, rebounds and assists. Then again, Miles didn't get a lot of opportunties with the bulk of the scoring being done by Boozer, Memo and Deron. And everyone deferred to Carlos on the rebounds.

If CJ can get some looks off curls, take it to the hoop a few times, maybe he'll feel like he doesn't have to shoot as many 3's.

Please. This stuff isn't that hard and Miles still can't learn it. He needs to sharpen his elbows, post up 18' foot out and get the ball, and start hitting his defender until the ribs get sore. This ****'s worked for Kobe for how many years and Miles still doesn't get it? If he hasn't learned by now then he never will. Obviously the talent just isn't there to pull off NBA moves.

Umm the Jazz offense doesn't use the mid-post. And it certainly does not post up the 4th or 5th option consistently. BBIQ fail.
