Cavs offer Gordo MAX deal (maybe)

Just go away Gordon. There are plenty of gamers in CLEVELAND. A wonderful life awaits you there. May I recommend getting a place out of the city, way out of the city.

What I found interesting is that Gilbert wasn't even going to be in the meeting. To me, if you're going to offer a guy the MAX, the owner should probably be present at some point.
We've seen some major smoke already. Bosh and Wade were reportedly taking paycuts down to $11M. Then their agent said, "No Way." Now it's not so fast with the Hayward deal.

This is a tough one to call. If the Jazz continue the stance they'll match any offer, teams may not want to sign him to an offer sheet and have their free agent money tied up through July 13th. On the other hand, if Lindsey lets leak the Jazz probably won't match a high offer, it could encourage a team like Cleveland to give Gordon a big deal.

Even if it is a max deal, Jazz Match or counter offer with a five year arrangement that is less per year. Gordon is here to stay. Watch Locke's tipoff today for an explanation. It actually makes a lot of sense.

Once the deal is signed, they can only match. If Cleveland is giving him the MAX, then Utah matches or doesn't. However, if it is something less (and the Jazz were ok with paying him the total contract value), it could be structured to pay him the MAX in year #1 and then decrease over the next 4 years. For example, let's just suppose Hayward's agent says a deal is on the table for 4/$52M and they're considering it. Jazz counter with a 5 year deal for the same average, but pay it out as a MAX the first year and decreasing salaries 2-5 to help them with the cap/tax in the last couple of seasons.

"Players who made less than $15 million this year: Russell Westbrook, Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, James Harden, Andre Iguodala, Tony Parker, Serge Ibaka...Clearly Gordon Hayward is worth more money than those guys"

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL CAVS SCREWED THEIRSELVES LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL **** CAVS **** BUM **** WUGGINZ **** NO D IRVIN' LLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL AIN'T NO LEBRON FOR YOU LOOL

The question is not what those players are getting paid. The question is what would the Jazz have to give up to get one of them. If we traded for Westbrook or Love, we would have to give up to many assets.

If they Jazz could have signed them when they were free agents, I think they would have.

Cherry picking at its finest.

LOL.
Contracts always leapfrog. Do you think Love is going to re-sign for $15M? He'll get the MAX, whatever it is, at the time.
Now let's look at players who made more than Gordon did at $3.5M and see if he deserved more than some of those.

Cavs just paid Irving 6 years 90 million. That's 15 million a year.

They're gonna pay Hayward more (per season)? I don't think so! That would be half the cap for those two. Not happening.

I think the reason that makes Hayward so interesting for the Cavs is he can play multiple positions. The Cavs want to start Andrew Wiggins at SG and Hayward at SF, but may switch them if things go wrong.

ESPN is reporting it:

Gordo will be taking the money they saved for LeBron? The fans in Cleveland are going to just love him.

Cavs have NOT offered Hayward a MAX deal. This is the same story, reported by yet another sports site. A "source" has leaked that the Cavs are preparing an offer for Hayward. Until they present the offer to the NBA and the Jazz, this is all speculation.

Sounds like the Cavs organization may still be pissed about that Boozer offer sheet 10 years ago, even with a different owner.

Well, we're still stinging over the loss of Matthews after Allen tried to screw us over with the big bonus to Millsap.

Good point. If I were Irving's agent, I'd call the Cavs and tell them they better up the offer to Kyrie if Hayward gets $16M/per.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers are hosting restricted free agent forward Gordon Hayward for a visit Wednesday and are preparing a huge offer sheet to try to pry him away from the Utah Jazz, sources told ESPN.com.

The Cavs, who have the ability to clear as much as $20 million in salary-cap space, are believed to be willing to start a deal at the maximum contract number of about $15 million per season."

If they want to pay the dude $15 a year then I say go ahead. I hope the well runs dry for the other teams and we get some deals. That or DL screws the teams who want us to relieve their cap space.
