Chad Ford Chat Today - On the Jazz and who might be available

The Jazz seem to have lost it and D-Will seems to be in another world on the court lately. Have they begun to tune Coach Sloan out? What changes can they realistically do this year to ensure they make the playoffs?

Chad Ford (1:08 PM)

It's a bit of a head scratcher. I don't think it's Jerry Sloan's fault. I think they need some more help on the wings. Biggest question will be what they can get for Andrei Kirilenko. NJ has some interest, but they aren't doing anything until Carmelowatch is over. Not sure there's another team out there willing to give up a big asset for him. I think Utah may be regretting letting Wes Matthews walk this summer.

Not that Ford is an expert on knowing what's going on inside the organization, he does seem to have some sort of an idea as to who is generally available on each team.

Nate (Phoenix)

Who is the biggest name in your opinion to get traded by the deadline and to whom? (Excluding Melo)

Chad Ford (1:11 PM)

I want to say Steve Nash, though the Suns continue to strongly insist he isn't going anywhere. A number of GMs in the league think Danny Granger might be available if they can give Larry Bird two starters in return. Mo Williams and Zach Randolph both seem to be in heavy rotation right now.

Corey (Philly)

I know the sixers are playing well but watching the games, it seems like it due to the resurgence of Brand, the emergence of Holiday and the bench. Iguodala needs to go... chances this happens?

Chad Ford (1:20 PM)

If the Sixers can make the right deal, I think it happens. But I don't think the right deal has come along. They are winning now, so they aren't desperate. I also think Thaddeus Young could be available. He's a restricted free agent this summer and I think the Sixers feel they can't afford to pay him. Evan Turner is another possibility to be moved ... again if they get the right deal.

What is the chance that a potential contender will make a move to acquire Kevin Love? His a emerging superstar on a team going nowhere.
Chad Ford (1:39 PM)

It would have to be a really good deal for Minnesota. Love has been the most improved player in the league and he's popular in Minnesota. But they know he doesn't want to be there. If they could get two or three good assets for him, they'd consider. But it's going to take a big offer.

And finally,

Nigel (Winston-Salem, NC)

Any teams already looking to move up in the draft?
Chad Ford (1:50 PM)

More looking to move out. Without obvious superstars, I think a number of teams are willing to sell out.

Disco (Chicago)

On to the youngins! Leonard vs. Fredette tonite, draft stocks?
Chad Ford (1:49 PM)

NBA guys are watching this one closely. Both Kawhi Leonard and Jimmer Fredette are having huge seasons, but neither are protypical NBA players. Leonard is a bit of a tweener, Fredette lacks the explosiveness that NBA teams are looking for. But you can't ignore what they're doing and the skills the do have. Leonard is long, athletic, has a great motor and reminds me a bit of Shawn Marion. Fredette can shoot from deep, is fearless and has a great basketball IQ. I think both can be very good pros. Looking forward to watching the game tonight.

Let's trade AK for Love. We can never have too many PF's.

I don't know if that's supposed to be sarcastic, but starting Love at the Center and Sap/Jefferson as the PF would be worth all those new pants I'd need to purchase.

Hasn't this been the #1 problem for the past 5 years? No one wants to touch the worst contract in the NBA.

Let me introduce you to Rashard Lewis ($20/$22/$24mm), Ben Gordon is locked up through 2014, Gilbert Arenas (17/19/20/22), and the Sixers double decker.

My latest idea is to deal Millsap to LA Clippers for DeAndre Jordan and Minesota's unprotected first round pick + Ryan Gomes to make it more appealing to the Clippers. Then, use the most likely top 4-5 pick to deal AK. Houston could show interest. I think they're trying to tank at this point. That goes for Detroit as well.

Other than deals for Marion and Diaw? Apparently it is the Jazz that don't want to move that contract.

The last team that tried that won something like 15 games.

This. We had chances to get rid of AK.

Yep. Until the Jazz get a near-max-performance player for AK's max salary slot, they can't improve as a team. Everyone else, save possibly Okur, is on a fair deal.

No matter how well AK plays, he's not worth bogging down the Jazz's payroll like he does.

Oh come on, Love with Jefferson? No one could possibly know how awesome that would be. It would generate unprecedented levels of WIN.

I honestly think that D.Will + Al Jeff + Sloan can attract a good free agent once AK's salary is off the books. Utah and OKC are the teams to come out of the west for the next couple of years if they can raise their play a level.

Yeah, the Clippers are going to give up Minny's unprotected 1st for a player who plays the same position as Blake Griffin.

What about Rip Hamilton for Memo + Raja ?

It makes us better, and Rip has the days counted in Detroit.

I worked up a Rip, Prince, and unprotected first for AK today, but I think we'd have to take on Gordon's terrible contract to make it worth it for Pistons. Both Rip and Gordon are still serviceable, but those contracts are horrid.

My hell.

Another Rip trade idea?

While we're at it, can we trade for Corey Maggette, Jeff Foster, or Jamaal Maglore?

Are Jazz fans so stagnate that they need to repeat these trade ideas that have been tossed around for the past decade? Come on man, get creative.

Andrei Kirilenko's mid range jump shot is just crap. Too bad he did not work to honor the big contract he was given. My love for Ak has gone by the wayside several years ago. I like most fans just want him gone.
