What's new

Chad Ford has us taking Exum at #5.

Actually his assessment on why Exum did not go to college and entered draft this year is spot on. Mystery sells. Had he played in college he would be talked as late lottery pick at best and more realistically he would be in the same range as McDaniels or Anderson. So very, very smart move by his family and agent to sell him now. Now we just need to see which stupid sucker GM is going to bite on it.

Another scenario is that the Jazz draft Vonleh at #5 and trade Kanter to the Celtics or Lakers to then draft Smart or Gordon. That would be a fair trade, imo.

If Ante Tomic is really coming over, I could see this playing out.

Between Vonleh and Exum, Exum has the greater chance of busting. Vonleh size and rebounding would allow him to have a rotation spot immediately.

Exum also has the biggest chance of being a star. He has a huge risk/reward factor. It's going to take a lot of stones to pull the trigger on Exum.

KOC wouldn't even sniff Exum, DL just might take that chance.

Yeah it would, taking a consensus top-4 player at #5 would be a huge risk.

And that is more of what I want out of the Jazz FO.

A line-up of

Smart
Oladipo
Afflalo
Harris
Vucevic

with:
Harkless
Nicholson
12th pick

makes much more sense IMO.

Why?

I like Harris, but he is an average athlete tweener who isn't a particularly good shooter. Vonleh would be a huge upgrade to him in terms of upside at the PF position and they can grab Ennis or Payton to play PG (who are both more natural PG's than Smart/Exum).

It makes a ton of sense to me if they aren't that sold on Exum/Smart or are really sold on Vonleh.

If the magic draft exum it would allow Oladipo to guard the opposing pg and exum the opposing sg, which would be a big improvement.

not seeing much bust factor from Dante honestly....

Positionally, Dante has elite size (one of the tallest and longest PGs in the league) AND elite speed (faster sprint times than the much smaller Damian Lillard & chris paul, and the best agility times in the draft class). pending an unforeseen injury... he will at the very least be a serviceable player.

Most players need at least 1 "elite" trait to thrive, it seems very likely that Dante has at least 2.

He also has acclaim for his passing and vision; if it is not elite, it is at least above average. I think his floor is a starter. That =/= bust to me.

This is predictable. Bitch and moan about how we are one spot out of a star and in this mock one of said stars falls and some are all "F him we want Gordon!" LOLzzers
