Chad Ford On Draft: "All you need is a top 5 pick to nab a Superstar

We're certainly on track for that.

Just gotta make sure we don't draft a Sam Bowie/Greg Oden/Marvin Williams, and we'll be ok.

If the Jazz lose more than 82 games this season, they are going to name them the NBA champions of the 2014-2015 season.

Holy **** I am so excited for getting a superstar. Worst record guarantees us a top 5 pick, and that basically guarantees us a superstar!!

"Guarantees a superstar" is one of the stupidest things I've read on this site in a while. You're talking about kids who have played like 2 college games. Hold your damn horses.

We're certain to get a great prospect

Jazz will end up with someone good. That said, they will be much better off to get a top 2 pick so they are guaranteed either Parker or Wiggins. They need a SF. They have potentially really good players at every other position. If they end up with a top 2 pick, they can be scary good.

I'd extend this to top 3. Randle is as good as advertised thus far. I would prefer Parker or Wiggins as it fits a strong need for this team, but I wouldn't flinch to snatch up Randle if both the SFs were if the board.

This isn't a nitpick as I'm sure you're just speaking in generalities, but I just want to confirm: worst guarantees we'll pick top 4, right?

Yes, top 4

1st: 0.250
2nd: 0.215
3rd: 0.178
4th: 0.357
5th: 0.000

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's a long season and the Jazz only have a one-game lead. There is still plenty of work to not do.

He will be good, and the Jazz will be able to use him. But getting a SF that will likely be an all-star will make everyone better. I don't know if Randle does that near as much imo.

Looked at the past 10 drafts. The team with the worst record only drafted first 1.5 times. The average pick of the worst team was 2.8 respectively.

Below is the list of where the worst team in the league was slotted after the lottery, and who they took with their picks:

2013 Draft: #2 - Oladipo
2012 Draft: #2 - Kidd-Gilchrist
2011 Draft: #2 - Derrick Williams
2010 Draft: #3 - Favors
2009 Draft: #4 - Tyreke Evans
2008 Draft: #2 - Michael Beasley
2007 Draft: #4 - Conley Jr.
2006 Draft: #4 - Tyrus Thomas (POR eventually ended up with Brandon Roy)
2005 Draft: #2 - Marvin Williams
2004 Draft: #1 - Dwight
2003 Draft: #1 & #3 - Lebron & Melo (Cleveland and Denver tied for the worst record that year)

Correct

Wow, this list is depressing...I only see 3 superstar caliber players on this list. The rest are certified busts (Marvin, Beasley, Thomas), decent players (Conley, Evans), or unproven (the rest).
