What's new

Charlotte Hornets @ Utah Jazz -- Feb 9, 7pm MST

Lol........ take out his best game and he’s shooting 38% over the last ten games. Take away all his made shots and he’s shooting 0%.

I appreciate your dedication to DM, fact is that his shooting is off at the moment.

Rubio got smashed on here early in the season, he’s actually shooting at 41% now.

Yes it is bad...

No doubt DM needs to take shots in this offense, probably around 15-20 per game. Just saying his efficiency is really low at the moment.

Take out the Phoenix game and he’s shooting 38% over the past 10.
You appear to have no idea that making conclusions from a 10-game sample from any player (especially one that includes a couple of flu games) is stupid. FYI, it's stupid.

holy ****. I keep reading. You kept writing.

Seems like vossy is simply saying that lately Mitchell is shooting poorly. Not that he is a bad player or is a poor shooter. Just that he has been in a shooting slump recently. I think that is correct, and its ok. He has some reasons for it. He is a rookie (possibly hitting the "rookie wall"), defenses are gameplanning against him much better and he is facing better defenders and more double teams, he has been under the weather, the lineups have not been consistent and he has had to learn to play with different players (gobert came back, thabo went out, hood in and out, burks minutes all over the place, jerebko and jj minutes all over the place, Royce minutes increase, etc).......
I dont think anyone is really worried about DM at all. He is just in a small slump and even in a small slump he dropped a 40 point game, we have been winning all of the games, and he has mostly been productive on both ends despite his shots not dropping as much.

um... flu?
also... um... every goddamn scorer in history has a few games like this. It isn't a slump if it's just normal.

Gobert had a pretty awesome line last night.
33 minutes, 7-8 from the field, 6-8 from the line (really nice especially since he missed both free throws on one trip to the line), 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, zero turnovers, and only 1 foul.
Plus he shut down dwight howard who had a really really bad game. Seemed like he caught a number of really tough passes too and even had a long jumper that was nothing but net.

If you are hard on Mitchell for his shooting while we are winning our 8th straight, you're a fool.

Mitchell plays defense, runs within the offense, is unselfish and is quickly becoming the face of the franchise. Like most franchise players, he will get the green light whether he is shooting 60% or 30%. Since he does everything we want on the court, I am perfectly fine with that.

Every scorer in history has slumps. Its nothing to worry about.
Donovan mitchell is a total stud. Might already be the best player on the team (rudy probably still holds that title but i think there is an argument to be made for mitchell) and will almost certainly be the best player on the team very soon.
Gonna be an all star almost every year of his career probably.

All of this is correct. I dont think talking about a small shooting slump is being hard on mitchell though. I think its a gamethread were you discuss things that happen during the game you are watching.
Its not like there is a "donovan mitchell has got to go" thread or anything. Or a thread saying how bad of a shooter donovan is, or a "trade donovan" thread etc.

Seeing Mitchell out there dominating and hearing people whine about his eTS+/-% makes me care less and less about advanced stats.
The way I've always felt about advanced stats is they show what u need to work on to get better, but are way over blown in the game it's self, unless u were just that bad. Lol

Mitchell is on par with any supposed superstar in the league in regards to efficiency, i.e. shots vs points scored. You gotta watch the actual game and see how effective he was in order to have a real feel for his overall rating. More often than not, even if he's not scoring that well he is controlling the game in other areas.

uhh wut?

Well, at least we aren't seeing any 3-21 games.
Seems like we expect a ROOKIE to be a superstar already. Yes, there are a few who came in and quickly put up eye-popping numbers. But other eventual all-stars struggled as rookies.

Compare, the two rookie stat lines below.

Now, I will concede the 2nd stat line is from a player who was two years younger as a rookie. He has developed into one of the top superstars in the league. So we should be a little patient with Donovan. What Mitchell is doing as a rookie is truly remarkable, especially given that he's Utah's #1 option. He doesn't really have another true scorer around him. Well, recently Rubio and Ingles have taken some pressure off.

BTW, for those interested, the first stat line is Mitchell's. The second is Durant's rookie year.
