If we do draft a pg (hopefully Burke), does anyone else find Billups interesting? I think he could be a great influence on our young guys and perfect on a two year deal where he starts but is told that he will give way to Burke when the latter's ready. I'm not sure I'd just want to throw Burke right in and I could see Billups down with something like this maybe.

The way Billups threw a hissy fits when he was amnestied, I don't think he'd want to baby sit our guys.

FTR, I like Billups, and in a perfect world I like the premise put forth in this post. But it's not happening. The guy is one of the good guys, but he has too much pride to be signed to be Andre Miller by a team in a market nobody wants to go to and by an organization he has no previous relationship with.

If we go young next year and turn the team over to Favors, Hayward, Kanter, Burks and say Burke... This is what I would like to see: Sign 3 vets to big one year deals to specifically teach the ropes.

Cap Holds with Picks= $28M and we need to spend another $26 minimum. Throw $8M to Billups & Ray Allen if he opts out and flip Marvin for P Gasol. Tell them that we want to push for the playoffs and specifically to Ray and Chauncey that we want them to train up these young guys on work ethic, professionalism etc. Gasol mentors the bigs, Ray Allen teaches Alec/Gordon how to shoot/dedicate to the art of shooting, and Chauncey trains up the PG's including his buddy from Colorado ... Burks. (Remember that is one of the leagues former best players who actually knows and mentors Burks allready.)

At this point in their careers I think they might be open to the idea of making 2-3 times the money they would otherwise earn to come play for a franchise that values what they could bring.

How often does something like this happen? You usually reserve the "at this point in their careers" line for players chasing championships, not dollars. Hell, one of the players in your fantasy left money on the table to chase rings with Miami just this year.

You seriously want to give Corbin more vets?

Count me out.
I concur. Assuming no coaching change, the Jazz need to "dummy-proof" the roster for our incompetant coach and eliminate the "temptation" of washed up old veterans. If you wanted your fat spouse or child to lose weight you wouldn't put donuts and chocolate cake on their dinner plate would you?
