Child firing Uzi at Ariz. shooting range accidentally kills instructor

I have taken kids as young as 5 to a shooting range and taught them about guns and helped them fire a gun. Several times. Teaching them to shoot is fine and very responsible if there are around firearms.

My girls have fired a .22 pistol, .38 revolver and 9mm. I, or another gun familiar adult, helped them hold, aim and fire the gun. They were never holding the weapon without complete adult supervision, even down to not holding it without an adults help. My oldest does not care for it at all but my middle child wants to try the judge (.45 ammo) and the 12 guage.
Why did you do this?

thats how pusssies are made. aka anti gun, obama loving communist
Just so you know Dutch..... obama is the president of the usa... the usa has lots of guns

make em come for it., heck they could team up and come for me
Of those rulers you listed, how many were taken down by civilians with guns?

I know Hitler was taken down by military.... sadaam also.

cars are the cause of more deads then guns.

i'd rather you take my car, then my gun.
Well that because your priorities are out of whack

Why did you do this?

Their mom's side of the family if very gun centered and they are constantly around guns. Better I know that they have been taught and have a healthy respect than just turn them loose and hope for the best.

Also I like to shoot and hope to pass that onto my kids. Hopefully it will be good memories for them.

Also why not?

Good answer

I respect the Constitution and our right to bear arms. I also highly respect that people are trying to teach their loved ones proper gun safety. However, the notion that parents are bringing nine year olds to gun ranges to fire Uzis and the like is just mind boggling to me. There is absolutely no need for this imo. Zero.

I'm calling you out for this, guy. This type of language is wholly unacceptable in any dialogue. Drop the hard "r" and maybe we can talk. But I don't want to be associated with your pasty racist ***, and I bet I speak for 90% of the rest of JF. Don't use that word here. Get me?

I couldn't agree more. Ok, I can buy it was sarcasm but I still don't like it.

Including the 9 year olds? How about 5 year olds? I know some that are real responsible. We can let them pack heat to school to defend themselves in case an armed bully asks for their lunch money. After all the only way to stop a bad bully with a gun, is....a good kid with a gun...

I'm not trying to make a point here. AKMVP seemed completely ignorant of why people would ever need guns besides for hunting. I was filling him in on the concept behind our 2nd Amendment. That is all.

Understood.

I am not going to speak on his behalf, but I think his perceived ignorance is a rather rhetorical question aiming to make an argument against gun ownership in US...

But I might be wrong...

I know it may be sexist and you'll probably think I'm nuts but...

I think girls should be able to carry a 9m handgun at 16. Boys should have to wait until they're 21.

Hey, there is no question hundreds years ago when USA were established guns played different role. But why would you need that old and outdated law or constitutional right in 21 century? Wasn't there a law once that women should obey her husband? Maybe we should keep that one instead:)?

I've had my house(not my current residence)broken into in the middle of the night. It's frightening to wake up to a man standing at your bedroom door and I imagine even more so for a woman. I hate to think what this guy might have done to my better half if I had not been there.

And how having a gun saves you if the other guy has a gun too? Brake ins, roberies and other small crime will happen unfortunately. Having more guns does not make your country any safer. See Japan for example... gun related crime is 0.001 % there or so. Scandinavian countries - almost zero as well. Basically non existent. You guys need to change your mentality and culture more than gun laws. Now I understand that it is largely impossible to do anything quickly in USA due to amount of firearms in the country. But something needs to be done.

Point is we live now, not hundreds of years ago. Why follow outdated laws???

The date a law was created is an not an absolute on its continued usefulness. Fir example Murder and robberh

What percentage of gun owners in USA bought their guns with 2 Amendment in their mind? I bet half of them don't even know it.
