CJ Miles Breakout Season (take 4)

There were only 3 wing players in the NBA last season who hit those numbers: Monta Ellis, Paul Pierce and Steph Curry.

That is surprising. More wings should be hitting those numbers. It just shows that (a) there aren't many wings with a complete game , or they'd be getting a few rebounds and assists and (b) the guys that do have a complete game are taking too many bad shots, or they'd have some better shooting percentages. Any starter wing should be close to those numbers. I'm confident Gordon can hit those numbers.

Most wings don't average 3 assist per game. To average 3 apg you have to have the ball a decent amount. Most wings aren't asked to facilitate that much.

Holy **** I'm tired of this thread/conversation/topic.

This.

And this says it all:

reg------min---fg--3pt (C.J. Miles)
2007–08 11.5 .479 .390
2008–09 22.5 .459 .352
2009–10 23.8 .429 .341
2010–11 25.2 .407 .322
2011–12 26.1 .389 .304 ?

(thanks Legatus...best sig ever)

Every report every year is that he worked hard in the off-season gained/lost weight, blah blah blah so now he will be an all-star. And this is what we get for buying into the unmitigated ********.

So, what, we give him 30 mpg this year and he produces .342 and .281? No thanks.

I could see Miles averaging 15 points per game. After Jefferson and Millsap, scoring is pretty much up for grabs. I could see Harris, Miles, or Hayward claiming the 3rd scoring role.

I know it sounds lame, but I see this being a good year for Miles. It's the infamous contract year, and he can't get any worse, right?

See my post above, and legatus's sig.

My prediction for CJ this season. 20% great games, 40% below-average games, and 20% facepalms.

And 20% so bad they're not even worth mentioning I suppose?

I think it breaks down like this:

10% Holy **** this kid is AWESOME
20% I wish they had played Hayward more that game
50% Did CJ play last night? Hmm, didn't notice
20% Holy **** why does ANYONE let CJ even in the stadium?

I must add a disclaimer. I do not think we will gain anything by playing CJ many minutes this season. Burks/Hayward need those minutes as at this point they are far more promising that CJ. That said, if he has a breakout season, I will be cheering loudly for him. I would love to see one of our wings become an all-star this year, whether that is Hayward, Burks or CJ. I think CJ is a nice kid. I have nothing against him as a person. I just think he is what he is, is not likely to get much better, and in fact more likely he will get worse since his issues have always been mental and not physical and that is harder if not impossible to improve. I just feel strongly that we have better options at the wing position.

I don't know why Miles being lighter is such a good thing - before he bulked up he got pushed around like a bitch most of the time. Especially when he played the 3. And last year with the weight (which was mostly upper body) was the only time he made some contributions other than shooting well once a week.

Guys just not that talented and he's soft. I don't know what else there is to say about him

If he gets off to a hot start, trade his *** before he does what he does every year. Get something nice back. Like a 2nd rounder and no salary back.

Statistically, you are right, most wings had less than 3 assists, but still, there were plenty of guys that had 3 assists , but fell short on the shooting percentages, including AK for example. I think Hayward could hit all those numbers though. I don't like having all the assists coming out of one position, personally, I'd rather keep the defense guessing.

The only thing I ask of Miles is to use his possessions wisely. In fact, that's basically what I ask of every player. Better players can shoot more and crazier shots, but no one is above helping the team win, whether that's deferring or not being scared to take shots.

Miles has been an ever-increasing joke. I was on the pro-Miles train after 2008, and ever since then, all he's done is use possessions less wisely and then from there let it affect his ability to play. If he shoots 5 shots a game but scores 8 points a game, then I'll be elated.

That's not going to happen, though. When the question of whether the Jazz would or should pick up his option, the answer was practically unanimous that he had to go. Whether that was not picking up his option, or trading him once it was. As far as I'm concerned, I'm still there. I was just hoping they could turn that option into another 1st rounder or 2nd. Too late. Oh well.

This. I don't care about his #'s. I don't care about his ending stats. All I care is that he plays smarter and stops taking soo many bad shots. His %'s have got to get better and his play has got to be smarter. He is pretty good attacking the basket but does not do this nearly enough. If the loss of weight helps him great.

I don't care how many points he gets per se, if he can just stop being so inconsistent he would be so much better.
