Cliff Lee signs with the Phillies

That rotation is sick. $24 per is a steep price for a guy who will win you 5-10 extra regular season games. It better work out in the post season or you've blown a ton of cash for nothing. He got beat twice in the Series last year.

I wished the Rockies could have been in the running for Lee. Baldy, Lee, and this young Venezuelan would be a sick rotation. I'm watching Jhoulys Chacin develop like Ubaldo did. With another guy like Lee they're a contender. Without another ace it's looking like a so-so season.

I'm just a casual baseball fan with no love for any one team in paticular, but anytime somebody tells the Yankess to go **** themselves, my nipples firm up just a little bit.

They have Cliff Lee, so OSwho? Oswalt was only 13 and 13 last year with a 2.76. He's only put up this kind of ERA for how many years now? Who is he again?

Who is Oswalt? He is just an ace that continually is solid. Win and Loss records are the worst ways to rate a pitcher. Let me compare two pitcher's careers just for the fun of it.

Pitcher A: Career: 57-62 with a 3.45 ERA 1.22 Career WHIP

Pitcher B: Career: 96-92 with a 4.56 ERA 1.43 Career WHIP

Pitcher A dominates Pitcher B in every category except the win/loss totals. The reason for this is that wins and losses are determined not only by you as a pitcher, but by your offense actually giving you run support.

So who is pitcher A & B?

Pitcher A: Matt Cain of the World Series winning SF Giants.

Pitcher B: Jason Marquis of the Washington Nationals.

In closing, use ERA and WHIP more than a W/L record to support your argument of a pitcher's worth. Other stats worth mentioning I guess, OBA, K/9, and BB/9. That's the fun thing about baseball, endless stats.

As for the Phillies.... They now have 4 legitimate aces and if the injury bug doesn't hit them in a big way, they are on their way to winning 100 games this year IMO.

Nice move by the Phillies. Let everyone talk about Texas and NY and quietly scoop him up. The Phillies pitching rotation is plain sick with four guys who have a legitimate shot at winning 20 games...and the lineup isn't too shabby either with Utley, Howard, Victorino, Polanco, and Rollins. As for the comment about W-L records against Oswalt, a large portion of last season was spent with him playing for the toothpick swinging Astros. Once he was with the Phillies he won something like 10 of 13 starts.

On a side note this offseason is turning into quite the black mark for the Yankees. They strike out with Lee, anger Jeter, and lose Crawford to their hated rivals while having to sit back and watch said rivals scoop up the most underrated player in the game in Adrian Gonzalez. As a Yankee-hater it is a beautiful thing.

Dude, whatever. Oswalt only has a 3.18 career ERA over ten full seasons. He has one out of ten seasons above 4 ERA. He only has one back-to-back 20 win seasons. He's only been good for 30+ games for 7 years. Who is he again?

Well since I can't stand the Phillies let me just say in my unbiased opinion, thank you, your team just added another pitcher the Giants swept in the playoffs and will make it that much easier next year.
But seriously go to hell right behind the Yanks and the Sox.
