What's new

coach of the year results are in.

I believe Stevens deserves it based on coaching merit. His team is simply not as good as he makes them perform. Their best player is out, and a nice rotational piece in Hayward, and he has two rookies and a seldom used pg going to the conf finals with a decent chance of advancing despite what has been quite possibly Lebrons greatest playoff performance to date. After Anthony Davis joins them, they will be in the Finals for about five straight years. But Golden State cant be beaten for at least this year and next, so there's that.....and then Utah will win three which eats up the prime Celtic years.

2 all stars, 1 considered one of the best interior defenders in the NBA, 4 main pieces shooting 40×% from 3, with a stretch 2-way center shooting 43%, and Morris stretching PF at a respectable 37%, giving Kyrie plenty of space to do what Kyrie does.

This isn't Brad Stevens rocket science. Boston is simply stacked. I'd vote Tyrone Lue in ahead of many if not most. He has LeBron, Love and a bunch of noones plus a ton of roster turnover to manage through.

You do remember Kyrie hasn't been playing since early April, and that all that three point success just highlights Stevens genius. Apparently, you don't even watch Boston play, ever. I can't even issue a rebuttal based on the fact you said Boston was stacked and something about Tyrone Lue deserving anything but an eternal vacation, and then I saw your username and figured it was best to just quit.

Maybe you can't issue a rebuttal because you don't understand how bball operates? Great 3 point shooters, a solid inside scorer, and 2 youngins who can play. Hmmmm, how should I design the offense? And i happen to have 2 way players. Oh snap, got it! I'm brilliant!!! Let me call LeBron to confirm. He has high bbal IQ you know.

Dwayne isn't going to get fired. He deserved it also
lol. You obviously do not watch or follow Toronto enough. Casey did nothing to deserve it compared to Snyder, McMillan or Stevens. leading teams like Jazz or Pacers which were suppose to be lottery teams to playoffs is way more impressive than adding few more wins to already 50+ win team. Its his assistant Nick Nurse who changed their offence which Casey is being credited as "changing the culture"( although in playoffs they reversed to their old habits and got swept by trash Cavs team because of Casey being outcoached like some noob). Casey is the worst coach to get that award. He is gone for sure.

George Karl was fired in 2013 after winning COY, so wouldn't be the first. Maybe we could pick up Derozan on the cheap.
No to Derozan. Only players which I would take of Toronto would be Siakam and Anunoby. And maybe VanVleet if Exum is gone, he can be very decent backup PG.

Maybe Stevens doesn’t do much for the community off the court? Seems like this award is more about what coaches have done for community and profession of coaching.

Hilarious that anyone could think Stevens isnt a great coach. Just like Quin, someone has to develop that talent: Tatum, Brown, Rozier, Smart. Those are all great young players developed under Stevens. He's gotten the most out of Morris. He's melded that team into one of the top defenses in the league. Boston has won a number of games down the stretch. Not to mention having to pivot several times due to injuries.

You'd have to make the same argument for Quin not deserving votes: he has the likely DPOY and top rookie. Has one of tje best 3pt shooters in Ingles. Solid PF and a very good PG. Nope, Quin shouldn't get any credit for his coaching.

There are more I am sure of but just a quick few form the top of my head, here are some Stevens and Snyder similarity in arguments for the regular season:

Both lost Hayward

Both lost the previous years starting PG

Both got new PG had to integrate into new team (albeit Kyrie is a better player and the offense was geared towards him)

Both had high level rookies (albeit that Mitchell was leaned on more and more and became the #1 offensive scoring option)

Both had major roster turnover from the previous year (albeit BOS was because they acquired major talent upgrade so had to let several players go due to cap reasons and the Jazz had to add lower level FA's to fill out their roster)

Both had to deal with multiple and major injuries
-----------

Differences
Expectations, BOS was favored to be a top 2 seed in the East

Eastern Conference, BOS is in the Leastern conference, while improved from prevoius years still not nearly as good.

Allstars, BOS had 2 on their roster
