College Basketball '14-15......

I am noticing lots of games ending in 40-50 pts difference? Why the level of competition is so uneven? Will Gonzaga even be challenged before playoffs? Sabonis had double double in last game in 19 min. 10pts/11reb.

Lots of teams play cupcake schedules in their OOC play.

Of the top 10 teams, here are the number of top 10 teams they have on the schedules;

UK - 6
U*NC - 6
UL - 6
Duke - 5
KU - 4
UF - 3
Virg - 3
Texas - 3
Whisky - 1
AZ - 0

Zags play 1 top 20 team the entire season - Arizona.

2 after BYU beats San Diego State tomorrow.

I've never looked it up....but how accurate are preseason/early season polls at the end of the year really? As far as teams remaining in the top 25 at any position? I know in football about 7 or 8 teams typically aren't in there anymore at the end of the year. I'd guess basketball might be a little higher than that because there are so many more teams.

In basketball, preseason polls are a better indicator of post-season success (ncaa tourney) than end of regular season rankings.. believe it or not.
Most assume it's because so many top teams assemble a brutal schedule while some good, but not great, teams rise in the rankings playing a cupcake sked.

Byu has not played any good teams but thier points per game and average margin of victory are impressive

How good do you suspect they are? Top 20, top 25, top 35??
Top 25.

But they live and die by the three too much to be serious contenders to win more than a game in the tourney.

They are experienced, deep, and well coached...... but bad defensively, undersized, and lacking a post scorer

Just peeped the RPI (WAY TOO EARLY for that.. ).

95 - 90 win over 47th ranked Long Beach State.
91 - 62 win over 98th ranked AR Little Rock.

Not enough data to form an opinion.

I would love to one day see both BYU and Utah in the tourney in the same year. I miss the days of Majerus. (My apologies to Utes fans for the 90's).

I'm not sure BYU has the ball handlers to adequately deal with San Diego's press honestly. Collinsworth is shaky right now coming back from the ACL. He doesn't look sharp. Dobby Halford is jittery always. Haws is better moving without the ball. Fischer and Winder are probably above average ballhandlers, but I haven't seen Fischer against intense defense yet. Bartley's handle/decision making was a mess his Freshman year. SDSU is so bad offensively though, it might not matter.

Good post. Lol at "dobby" halford.

Collinsworth is the key to byu success or lack of this year imo.

Also in my post responding to pkm's query about how good byu will be i said that they live and die by the three....... well its more that they live and die by the jumpshot.

How bout a sticky modstapo?

Just looked. He is. I'm ****ing giddy. Sabonis would've been a top 50 player of all-time had he come over earlier. Maybe even top 25.

What's the point of all these early season tourneys? Just an easier way to schedule games between decent teams? I mean, obviously it's cool to get to play in some of these places....but any game I turn to for a moment is like 1/4 capacity. If that. Nobody goes. Doesn't matter if it's taking place in NYC, Puerto Rico, North Dakota. The empty gym factor has to almost negate any positives.
