What's new

College Basketball '14-15......

Close my eyes and I can see it:

Jordan Loveride WIDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEE OPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNN for three: Clank. Happened about 50 times.

Trying to pass it into the paint... straight to the other team. About 85 times.

TERRIBLE.

Sitting front row for the Arizona game just got less interesting.

Yep.

The only good news from that game is that Poeltl's poor ft shooting might buy the Utes another year with the big guy.

Great story.

Thanks for sharing.
As I read it made me want to seek out other kids like him and help.. and by the end of the story, I teared up.

Good for him.

Who would play you in the inevitable Blindside-esque film that tells the story?

Btw, I am homeless and am in desperate need of some assistance.

I would. Duh.

You're not elite level talent enough for me to consider helping.

How about Utah State? 17-10, lost about half their team to transfers before the season even started,..... you never see any hype for their recruits.....yet they somehow always manage to have better bigs than BYU or Utah. And They just win. I'm definitely tuning in to their MWC tourney games.

Uh oh Cy....

Cal just being the best Cal he can be...again.

Mississippi State coach grateful for Calipari's support

By Jerry Tipton

As Rick Ray labors to rebuild Mississippi State basketball, he has gotten encouragement from, perhaps, an unlikely source: Kentucky Coach John Calipari.

"Besides people I know personally — eliminating Matt Painter, Cuonzo Martin, Brad Brownell; guys I worked with in this profession — he has reached out to me more than anybody else," Ray said of Calipari.

Ray acknowledged that some people might be surprised by that.

"I know people have their feelings about Cal," Ray said. "He's been unbelievable to me. He's been so encouraging. ... Anytime we have a big win, he's one of the first guys to reach out to me via text and tell me congratulations, and things like that.

"So my perception of Cal is I think he's a genuine person. I think he really cares about coaches in this profession, and I think he wants the SEC (Southeastern Conference) as a whole to do well."

Among those initially wary of Calipari was Ray's wife, Breyana.

"She had her misgivings," the Mississippi State coach said. "'How is he? Is he a little bit of a salesman? Is he a used car salesman guy? Is this shtick?'

"As she's gotten a chance to be around him at SEC meetings, and the fact he's reaching out to me, she's really grown fond of him."

Mississippi State hired Ray in 2012. He inherited a regularly competitive program at a low ebb. Ray had only six healthy scholarship players in his first season, then seven last season. His record at State going into Wednesday night's game against Kentucky is 36-56 (12-38 in the SEC).

When asked why he thought Calipari had encouraged him, Ray said, "I didn't know Cal at all. I just think he sees a young guy (Ray is 44) trying to do things the right way. That's been thrown into a difficult situation. I'd like to think, more so than anything, he likes the way I've handled business over here. I think he appreciates that we play hard."

On the SEC coaches' teleconference Monday, Calipari said exactly that when assessing Mississippi State.

"I (contact) Rick throughout the season," Calipari said. "I'm amazed how hard they play, how much they're in sync with each other."

Ray expressed appreciation for Calipari's support.

"It means the world to me," he said. "For him to go out of his way to send out those encouraging words when it has been a difficult process for me, it really means a lot."

Rick Ray does have State playing hard, but damn do we suck. It's probably a talent thing. We just don't have anyone who can score efficiently at all. Not sure how much Ray just sucks at coaching an offense.

wow

Delon looked like an absolute stud tonight. NBA ready. His shooting form is actually pretty good he just needs reps. Everything other than his shooting(not horrible) is crazy good. Wright will go down as a steal in this draft, book it.

Wasn't he floating around the lottery earlier on the draft sites? 23rd on nbadraft.net and 31 on Draftexpress does seem a little low.

If Delon is drafted that low I hope the Jazz hop back in the late draft and pick him up. I think he'd be a far better fit for our system than Burke. He's unselfish, a great defender and his shooting is not as bad as advertised(though he will need to work on it).

32% from college 3 on 2 attempts per game is pretty bad, especially for a Senior.
