College Basketball '14-15......

Really?

I don't see there being that much of a home court advantage between BYU and UTAH. Their only 30 miles apart, they share a market, and their arenas are both quite large. Large enough to accommodate plenty of opposing fans. Slight advantage maybe but not much.
Byu has one of the best home court advantages you well ever see.

It's very rare for them to lose at home

Biggest game in years for the zoobs.

Wrong.
Byu has been in the ncaa tournament nearly every year for a long time now.

All those games were bigger. (Those games were not at home though so you didn't see pre game celebrations like this)

Can't dispute that, but I do think both teams benefit from the proximity to each other as well as being plenty familiar with each fan base when they visit each other's building.

Very excited to see how it shakes out since this isn't really a case of two teams with the same strengths. Utah's bringing size and defense while BYU shoots the ball very well and has an explosive scorer. Somebody's gotta impose their will on the other.

Good post.

And I agree that the home court advantage is not AS strong for this game due to proximity/rivalry game. But it is still alot better for byu to play at the Marriott center than at the huntsman

Let's hope Utah doesn't look past BYU thinking about Kansas. Utah is a much better team. Would really suck to blow this one.

Better? Sure. Much better? I think you underestimate byu a bit. (not sure but I think byu leads the nation in scoring..... I know that they did like a week ago)

Byu point totals so far this year:

Game #1: 82
Game #2: 75
Game #3: 95
Game #4: 91
Game #5: 101
Game #6: 87
Game #7: 121
Game #8: 85
Game #9: 90
Game #10: 91
Game #11: 90

My statement applied only to BYU Utes basketball and cuts both ways. It was in no way an attack on BYU or its fans.

Edit: I think that Utes football may have the greatest Home advantage in the rivalry due to the lower capacity of Rice Eccles. If Rice Eccles could seat as many people as Lavell Edwards I imagine the annual BYU/UTAH football game would still be played every year, tbh.

This means nothing without the opponent TBH.

Maybe you are right.

So your comment about Utah being THE MUCH BETTER TEAM should probably take the opponent into consideration as well right?

Both teams played san diego state. Both lost. Byu lost by a score of 87-92 in overtime. Utah 53-49 (in regulation). To me that does not equate to "much better team"
:^O

As for byu and Utah for the season. Both teams have played a lot of cupcakes and both team have destroyed them all.
Utah lost to san diego in a close game and beat witchita state in overtime in a close game. (witchita state MIGHT be over-rated since they have only played cupcakes so far like the rest of the country and are getting their high ranking based mostly off of past years)

Byu lost a close game to san diego state in overtime and lost a close game (2 points) to purdue in overtime. (both road games)
I think the byu win against Utah state in their building (where no team from the state of Utah had won since 2000) was a nice win (it was a comfortable win as well. 91-81)

So like I said,... Utah is better than byu? sure I can get with that. Utah is the much better team? looking at the season of both teams so far, I cant say that the games played so far show that.

Also, as colton stated...... byu is favored.

I'm not ready to say Utah is flat out better than BYU because that may not be the case. However, I do think the common loss against SDSU is interesting for a few reasons:

-Utah played @ SDSU
-BYU played them on a neutral court
-While Utah's offense was horrible against SDSU (credit the Aztecs), Defensively, Utah had a much better showing against them.

It really boils down to this: Is Utah's Defense better than BYU's offense? That will be the question that's answered tonight, and quite honestly, neither fan base knows the answer to that question quite yet.

Good post.
I'm even willing to concede that utah is the better team.
Bawse dawg saying that the utes are the much better team (while also being the underdogs in this game according to Vegas) is a bit ridiculous though

How about this? Utes playing at their best is much better than BYU at their best. You are getting really hung up on one adjective tbh.

Still disagree.
Byu at thier best is raining down threes and dropping 100+ points

Byu at thier best is an amazing offensive team.
Utah at thier best is an amazing defensive team.

Both teams playing at thier best probably means utes win in a game that looks something like 70-65.

Utes better? Sure
Alot better? If that were the case I think they would be favored

PUT MONEY ON Columbia NOW!

UK favored by 25 or smth.. which I already thought was too high against a team that plays sloooooow ball.. but I just got word that BOTH Ulis and Booker are out. Yikes. (not worried about losing, but I don't see 25pt win)
