Collin Cowherd's Rock Band Bracket

It think it shows to Cowherd's audience that Van Halen beat out Tool and The Allman Brothers beat out The White Stripes.

You probably fall in the aforementioned demographic

Maybe, but in terms of when the bands came out I'm somewhere in the middle (and I'm a hell of a lot closer to Jack White's age than Gregg Allman). And I don't think it's remotely close, the Allman Brothers are just miles above them in every imaginable way.

What's your proof?

Album sales???

Influence?
The White Stripes were trailblazers
Allman Brothers were Grateful Dead lite.

The Allman Brothers were the key influence of southern rock, a great genre of music. The White Stripes...I'm not sure what they influenced, but if it's today's rock that's an even bigger negative. But even more simply Duane Allman was just far more talented on guitar than Jack White could ever dream of being, and Gregg Allman is much better keyboardist than him.

I don't even get the Grateful Dead lite comment. If anything they were much heavier than the Dead.

I don't think The White Stripes' influence has had it's full impact yet, but it's definitely helped bands like The Black Keys find a bigger audience, and that's always a plus.

Jack White is an incredible all-around musician, and The White Stripes stand out more from the pack now than The Allman Brothers likely did in their day. Obviously it's hard for me to compare, The Allman Brothers were before my time. But then again the only southern rock that ever stood out for me was CCR.

Two songs from The White Stripes, just to show the range:

I always consider the Allmans to be an unfinished work. They were well on their way to being the greatest American RnR band when Duane Allman died. Losing Berry Oakley not long after was also devastating. They had some good stuff after the deaths, but they became just another band. I'd rather listen to "White Blood Cells" or "Elephant" than anything the Allmans did, but that's more a complement to the Stripes than a knock on the Allmans.

AC/DC is beating Nirvana...

How the hell is that possible? I thought most AC/DC die hards didn't even own a computer.

STP, AIC, Foo (where?) and Soundgarden > Nirvana, IMO.

Not in terms of influence, maybe, but man... I just can't stand Cobain, and musically they were mediocre, at best.

AC/DC has a farther reaching and longer lasting influence than Nirvana could ever have.

I could potentially agree with you on that except for STP. They were a pretty bland band, always were. Soundgarden and AIC all rocked a hell of a lot harder - they were just for the most part the more talented groups.

I consider STP an underrated band, largely because they were miscategorized. I don't think they were grunge, but they gained a lot of traction in that era, and were subsequently lumped with that scene.

I like them quite a bit, but can understand why some do not.

I'm not a big AC/DC guy, I prefer the Bon Scott era, but Nirvana is one of the most overrated bands of all time.

Aerosmith beating U2 in the sweet 16 is bull ****.

Definitely. Aerosmith stuff gets old pretty quick. U2 is the best.

Guns N' Roses and Van Halen, two of my favorite bands and tied at 50%. I'm pulling for GNR though. It's hard to pick between them and U2 for my favorite.
