What's new

Collin Sexton SZN

It's better he takes less and good shots than doubles his shooting leading for more bad shots. Same goes for everyone. On hot nights, they if course need to shoot much above season averages
Hot nights are a near nightly occurrence for him though.

if we sell sexton off for anything less than premium draft capital I’d be furious. I think trading him now is actually selling low. I get he had almost zero value early in the season but I think his improvement is real and with more volume he’s an even better trade asset.

Yep. It is pretty crazy how poorly he has been utilized from a volume standpoint with the hot hand he is playing with right now.
Until he can make higher quality passing decisions more regularly his volume has a usefulness limit.

And to be clear, he has improved on that front, but it's still not to the point where you can just put the ball in his hands all the time

I forget who compared him to the guard version of Julius Randle, but I think that's a great comparison. He's going to produce a ton. He may not help you win as much as that production implies, but that still helps you win a lot of games. But as far as trading him....it's going to be difficult to find a taker because just like Randle he is good, but not ideal player to build around. Randle is a a multi time all star and multi time all nba player. I don't think Sexton will quite reach those heights, but he's still very good. And at the same time, I don't think he fetches a ton on the trade market.

You would be wrong about that and him… again.

I think we’d be very fortunate if Sexton gets to Randle’s level. If he gets 2x all nba in his a career, I’d be very happy to be wrong about that.
I was more talking about his trade value and saying it would be difficult to find a taker. That’s pretty laughable actually.

I just mean there aren’t many teams that would be interested in paying the price that would get that kind of player. Like if NYK put Randle on the block, it would have to be a very specific team situation for them to be a buyer. It’s like the opposite of someone like Mikal where every single team would be interested no matter their situation and roster composition. Of course Randle would get interest and have value, but he’s a tougher fit despite how productive he is. Likewise, Sexton was put on the trade market, I bet the offers would be disappointing and probably not worth the value he’s delivering to the team.

Bruh... how could you forget who would make that type of comparison.

That's kind of my thought. I think they have both gone through some wild swings in career arc. I think Sexton is easier to work around as he is deadly as a C&S guy and seems to be less dribbly. I also think Collin will be more efficient but haven't looked at Randle's numbers. They both seem to have a ceiling limiting factor to them but both guys seems to improve on their weaknesses and you just never know.

The Jazzfanz proposed offer from LA is not something I'm sure they'd offer and simultaneously not something I'm sure I'd take.

there are other similarities between us and the Knicks as well... NY was a middle build that has been successful but might have a limited ceiling if they don't get the right star trade done. That may be where we are headed (we have more and better draft capital though).

I think as of right now... the building blocks of this team are Lauri, Collin, and Walker. They don't have to drive the decision making of the rest of the build but they need to be considered strongly as we acquire other pieces. If we move one of those then the assets coming back need to represent where they are as building blocks.

It's a terrible comp and makes no sense e

Personally, I would only put Lauri in that group. And the only decision to make on Lauri is to build around him or tank, he can play with everyone.

I also think Sexton will have a lot more value on draft night when a lot more teams are able to access their 2024 pick in trades.

I lean more towards keeping him for a full year of seeing him than taking what is currently being (I assume to be) offered.
