Confidence in GM down?

Put me in the camp of "drinking Lindsey's Kool-Aid" and digging his strategic rebuilding plan.

But..... I must say that the whole point guard resource management has eroded my confidence in his ability to assess talent: signing Lucas then pick-up and releasing Jamaal.

A solid PG that pushes the ball up the court seems important to player development, tank or no tank.

Hope I'm wrong.

One of the necessities of the tank is losing games. It will never be pleasant, but the best way to accomplish it given the construction of this team has been via the point guard position. My confidence in Lindsey is as high as ever.

I'd also like to point out that Burke wasn't suppose to get injured, so our core would be developing with a point guard. Tinsley was brought in to cover the damage, we all knew that he could at least run the team. He knew the system, but unfortunately he wasn't as good as last year, and lucas was also the other point guard. When you have two guards that are quite awful you have to do something and they did end up picking up Garrett whose seemed somewhat competent.

Jamaal...

I see your point but not sure I agree. If DL brought in Jamaal in order to lose games, Jamaal certainly accomplished that goal. So why did he release Jamaal is Jamaal was so successful at meeting team objectives? The logic does not seem to hold, either it was a mistake to bring Jamaal or it was a mistake to release him, you can't have it both ways. I think they are trying to land assets (picks) but also trying to develop raw talent, and without a PG that pushes tempo and gets the ball to the young talent, aren't they just wasting the season.

I am in the camp disappointed we could not come to a deal with Hayward...some how some way.

I realize it takes 2, but I get the sense our Front Office held back wanting to see this season.

Hayward will now probably get close to , if not a Max, and I am not sure we will match

Hayward is a proven quantity, even top draft picks can be a bust.

Plus Hayward said he would love to finish his career here....

I realize this topic has been beaten....but I think a BIG mistake

Well, they were pretty close to the max anyways in the negotiations. I thought the rumor was that Hayward was asking for 4/52, and the max is like 4/61 or 5/80. Anyway, either way he was going to get close to the max. I bet the Jazz would have locked him up at 4 years and 46-48 mil.

If he gets max that is 2 1/4 million more than what he was asking for. The only rumor I remember is the 4/40 which he just simply wasn't going to accept.

A good PG costs a lot of money. Jazz don't want to spend the money and the resources to obtain one. He'll get a better backup once the Jazz are going to make a push.

I'm not disappointed in Lindsey all. He has had a stellar summer.

I think the FO is the only thing that has gone in the right direction so far this year

Then letting the vets walk.
Then the draft.
Then not signing more vets over the youth.
Then the GST trade.

Go search for my, why losing means winning threads. You HAVE to lose in this league to win.

I think they still want to be competitive and help the youngsters grow, but of course they were only offering the minimum salary, so they were limited. With Tinsley they leaned toward a mentor and maybe thought he could still play a little. If so they were wrong. So they pulled the plug and went for another minimum guy with some speed who can maybe help them be a little more competitive. It worked like a charm for one game but not so great against better opponents.

We'll see how it works for 10-20 games, but if Garrett isn't helping it won't surprise me if they cut him and reload again with another PG if they want to.

Jazz played the Hayward card perfectly. He is showing that he is a valuable player. I don't think any team offers him the max and if they do I predict they match and unload him early in the deal ala nene with nugs.
