What's new

Congrats to BYU

So, I don't get it. We couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone as to why. I know they have a larger proportion of females to males, but with results like that I would have expected some kind of scholarship offer, but to flatly reject her application. Makes no sense.

So BYU is no longer on my "like" list, mostly because we couldn't get a real answer out of anyone.

That's too bad. I had a similar experience as a high school kid--didn't get into a college that I expected to get into. Like you, my dad talked to the admissions office and eventually found out that I had been rejected because too many people from my high school had been admitted the previous year. Go figure.

Anyway, sounds like your daughter will do just fine at UNR, and congrats to her on the upcoming mission!

I had a 0.0 GPA my Sophomore year of HS and halfway through Junior year. Got a 28 on my ACT's.

Would teh byu have accepted me?

I barely had a 3.0 and a 21 on the ACT and I got accepted into their summer program. Of course, I think anyone with a pulse could have gotten into the summer classes. That being said, I'm 100% positive they wouldn't have allowed you to even step foot on their campus. They have an Anti-**** Head policy, you see, and they enforce it brutally.

Yeah. Still way less. Has it BYU always been cheaper?

Don't know. I could probably approximate BYU's tuition prices for the past decade or two, but I don't know the other schools' prices.

(quick search) Here's some very good info on BYU's costs:

I remember when tuition went up to $1100 (1994) and many students were outraged at how expensive it was getting. I just laughed because they were very out of touch with the rest of the country. BYU's been an amazingly good deal for a long time.
