What's new

Congrats to Jeremy Evans, 2012 Slam Dunk Champion!!!

Williams took himself out by tanking the last dunk.
George took himself out by bricking the sticker dunk.

So it was really Buddinger and Evans.

I figured Williams was not going to make that final dunk he wanted so badly. He really isn't a leaper like Evans.

Evans first dunk was god awful.

It was certainly more white bread (excuse the lame expression) than i expected. Obviously someone convinced Jeremy that would make a great video, but they were wrong. The format of the whole contest ("jet" Smith and all
the contrived crap were pitiful. The dunk contest should just be about acrobatic/althletic/powerful dunks or just dropped completely. But i think the (1st dunk) "Intensity meter" (another lame idea which fizzled) had a 37 for
Jeremy and only one number was shown all night that was higher. The "double dunk" was the winner but it was such a pathetic contest overall.

Dwight Howard ruined the contest with the inclusion of gimmicks. Now every dunk has to have a gimmick attached to it.

Agreed. The gimmicks are now taking priority over the actual impressiveness of the dunk. Anyway, good for Evans. I thought for sure that George would win the text voting. I guess Evans is lucky that most of these guys are all but unknown to the casual fans. If Lebron was in this and he made a couple of layups then his popularity would probably win it for him.

I think it was just one of those dunks that he could barely do on a good day. Then after he failed the first 3 attempts, the body isn't capable of 100% effort so he essentially had 0 chance of pulling it off.

I wish Evans would have taken a risk like that on his 1st dunk instead of whatever the hell he did. I think he was trying to do something else, but accidentally dunked it?

I do have to say that Evans' first dunk had a lot of promise with the camera. I would have preferred him to try to get the biggest vertical leap he could and dunk the ball. Fans I think would have appreciated that more than what eventually happened.

Jeremy's 2nd was far and away the most difficult dunk. He had to actually catch a ball with each hand, control both of them, then dunk one, then dunk the other, all while still elevated. More difficult than what McGee did last year with 2 baskets where he was HOLDING the ball in his left hand; didn't have to catch it like Jeremy did.
Although the guy Jeremy jumped over was short, Jeremy didn't brace himself on the guy's shoulder when he jumped over him like all the others did. And yes, Budinger was looking down, along his nose; I could see his lower eyelid below the mask on a brief closeup. He could see...

Agreed. If Evans pulls of that Williams dunk attempt on the 1st dunk of the night then he would have had the place rocking.

I hope his TV station fails miserably.

If somebody said, "White power," I mean, could you imagine the outrage that would ensue? But he says, "Black power," and it will surely get swept under the rug.

Only white people are racist!!!!!

Are you ****ing kidding me? Phrases like "white power" are associated with hundreds of years of dark and unspeakable atrocities, that culminated in wide-scale ethnic exterminations. Black power is juvenile and divisive, but it does not even compare to the alternative.

Yeah, idk how he went from completely missing a straight on dunk to jamming a 180 reverse. First one seemed legit, but then he got scared and cheated.

Wait, I thought he was the most hated in the NBA, not most popular.

On the last dunk Evans should've jumped over the midget mailman, with the midget jumping on a pogo stick. That would've been priceless!

When P Diddy says black power I just assume it's going to be terrible African-American based comedies and Tyler Perry.

One sobering thought. If they hadn't changed the dunk contest to one round of three dunks Evans wouldn't have gotten out of the first round.

That probably changed his strategy. Voters weren't allowed to vote until the last 1st round dunk ended. 2nd round is the best round unveil your best dunk because people can text directly after it happens.
