Corbin Admits All of the Departing Players May Be Affecting Team Play

Having eight players bound for free agency may be taking a toll on the Jazz, coach Tyrone Corbin said Friday, and could be partly to blame for the team’s late-season struggles.

"It may have a little something to do with where we are," Corbin said. "We can’t do anything about it. We’ve got to play our way through it, that stuff we can’t do anything about until it’s time to do something about it."

Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson headline a large group of Jazz players who will be unrestricted once the season ends, and Corbin said factors such as wanting to produce bigger numbers and not getting hurt could impact individuals’ performances at this point in the year.

"All that stuff could come into play," Corbin said. "I’ve been a free agent before. You’ve got a lot of things that come into play now."

Corbin just makes no sense. Of course you can do something about it. You can play the players you know for sure are staying more (not to mention the only ones who seem to be putting out full effort at the moment), and play the players who are possibly leaving (not to mention many of who do not seem to be putting out full effort) less. I do not even understand what he means by that there is nothing he can do about it until it is time to do something about it. Does he mean not until those players are gone? I have never seen a coach so afraid of his own players.

He also uses himself being a free agent in the past as a example. It makes me wonder if the theory on here of some that he favors veterans over younger players because of his own NBA experience is actually true.

The whole situation is a joke. Shouldn't these players who are trying to score their next big contract be playing with the most effort and passion? Why aren't they? These guys have suckled off the Jazz teat for far too long and it is time for them to go. I am not mad if our team is not good enough to win. I am mad when you see a lack of effort. We have seen this lack of effort far too often this season. Time to get rid of the old and bring in the new.

That is exactly the most puzzling thing about it all. Usually players who are about to become free agents try their hardest to get a bigger new contract. Yet, many of the Jazz soon to be free agents seem to be playing like they could care less if they ever play in the NBA ever again. Yet, they are the ones who keep on being given generous minutes by Corbin. Its mind-boggling to me.

@ Hack: Maybe so, but that also begs the question why then the FO is giving players who are likely not returning more minutes, than the players that are supposed to be the future of this team?

It's not mind boggling at all. It just shows you how much of a de-motivator Coach Ty can be.

Horrid excuses. If Tyrone actually did what he said he would do. Enes and Derrick would be playing the most minutes of all the bigs. Al and Paul do not deserve major minutes. And they haven't since the trade deadline.

So why keep playing these morons?

Corbin says the most obvious things then doesn't make the most obvious moves. In fact, he does the opposite. Favors and burks on fire? Cool. Ill take them out now and insert cold ineffective players.

I have absolutely no idea why he plays these guys. Is the front office trying to keep the values of these guys up in a possible sign and trade? That seems really unlikely. It just makes no sense why these guys who show no effort a lot of the time continue to get big minutes.

Burks was phenomenal. I kept waiting for Corbin to put him in during the overtime period, but...

Hey, stop right there. If Burks was let into the game in OT, his energy and speed would have tired out Big Al and Paul. He had to sit on the bench and learn that it is really all about veteran status and not effort.

LOL.. too bad I just repped you bro.. this is some funny **** man!

I think Corbin is far too much a players coach. He has no backbone.

This.

He reminds me of that annoying sophomore who keeps kissing the butts of all the seniors just trying to crack their cool club.

He never criticizes them. Never holds then accountable. Never calls it the way it is. Just makes excuses for them. He isn't a coach. He's a cheerleader. Buddies with the players. That's why no one listens to him. Why no one respects him. The best coaches are feared

Great comparison.

Corbin can´t bench AL... He is not Man enough to bench BIG-AL. To play devil´s advocat, it´s not easy to go infront of AL and trying to mention him, that he will not getting his minutes until now. You need BIG ball to deal with AL.

......duh??? For you to make an astute observation like that just tells us that YOU have thrown your brains to the hogs as well!

They haven't since the middle of last year at least. Favors should be into his 2nd season as the starting PF/C of this team. Instead he's still playing less than 2 scrubs who don't deserve more minutes than him.

Corbin has been extremely abysmal this year, especially as of late. We can't deny as fans though that management has not put him in a position to succeed this year.

how cna you play hard.
if there is no team game.
no offensive system
no defensive cohesion

Hey Corbin, how about this... Maybe it's all because you carry the most idiocy of any coach in the nba. If Corbin coached the bobcats, they'd be rallying for a 1-81 record this year!
