Core 5 Judgement thread (no snap fitness here)

Since we all have our views on each of this young core this thread is to vent. The who're shipping seems to be out of control. But, you also have to write a positive for each negative.

Hayward
negative- for the minutes and him being the OC (original core) he does not pass the eyeball test as more than a 6th man on a championship team

positive - his deal is up

Favors
negative- has the offensive game of a young Darko Milic

positive- athleticism

Kanter
negative- can't jump even on a trampoline

positive- great on offense arguably best on the team

Burks
negative- streaky shooter for a two

positive- killer instinct when it comes to attacking the rim

Burke
negative- too small without the speed

positive- he does have some type of smooth clutch shooting at the end of games

I really like what I've seen out of kanter, favors, and burks. No homo

But don't like what I've seen out of JR Burke (who is a chuck first and second and then maybe pass third pg)

And I really do think Andrei Hayward is what SVG described him as: An athletic wing who Can't shoot. I think his poor work ethic and toughness have really manifested themselves this year. Hayward, like Kirilenko relies solely on his athleticism and instincts rather than actually work out hard to develop fundamentals and go to moves. It takes time and real effort to develop a shot and moves. You can't do that if you're glued to video games and raiding Indiana preschools.

Agree on Favors and Burks. I'm mixed on Kanter. Maybe need to evaluate under a different coach and system to see if flaws can be fixed. Hayward is trying to do too much in a contract year. Reign him back in next season and have him get back to 45%/40% which was his career avg prior to this season.

As for Trey, thus far I've been unimpressed. But other PG's have taken a big jump forward after their first year. The concern is that he's always going to be short and he's not very quick. That's not a good combination.

"no snap fitness"??

Is OP a Euro dude? Never got that impression before.

No idea wtf "no snap fitness" is supposed to mean

For a 6'11" 260 lb. dude, Kanter's athleticism is decent. He's showing that he's a 20-point scorer who plays within the flow of the game and doesn't completely suck on defense.

Burks is showing he can score on his own and make good passes. His distance shooting isn't ideal, but he can be a starting SG. His game is developing to be a bit like Manu's.

Favors battles on the boards, defends pretty well and scores around the rim. That's about it.

I don't know what to say about Hayward right now. He does some great things, but he's been inconsistent to say the least.

I trust Kanter's ability to improve. It will come with playing time.

Hayward can't create for himself, and that's OK...it's just a shame that hes commanding over 10 mil a year.

I like Burks the most, he's cool!

I didn't like Burke before the draft, I was kinda glad we got him just because everyone was hyped about him. I don't think he's good enough and if Smart is the BPA, I'd pick him.

Who knows though, maybe our next coach uses our players better or something

Burks has that Ginobili-esque euro-step.

I see Kanter has having enough athletic ability to be an average defender. He needs to learn to anticipate and rotate better. But with his offensive talent he is a good starter eventually.

Favors makes a huge difference on defense with his ability. His offense is good enough for him to start if someone else is the primary scorer.

Burks is coming into his own as a scorer. He still has significant defensive lapses but his rebounding a big plus.

Hayward, Hayward, Hayward.... I want him to be good but it just isn't happening this year. Maybe he needs Jeff Hornacek mind voodoo for him to play well.

Burke is skilled enough and quick enough to be a good player. I think if he can gain some strength he'll be able to get the free throw line- which would complete his offensive game. Defensively he will always be small.

No judgement on Jazzfanz posters or the players?

Posters the Jazz players are open game. Just a central thread instead of all of these individual threads about players. Lets slam on them and praise them all we want here.

Like this I heard that Favors hit like 3 outside jumpers last night. Locke said that he has been shooting 25% from that range. Here is to bumping bringing up that average.

Favors has shown to be the anchor of this team. He improves the D measurably. Great rebounder and rim defender. Needs to expand his O by 3-4 moves in order to keep the D guessing. Will not be a key offensive piece. Core team piece moving forward.

Kanter has shown flashes of ability. He is great offesnively but needs to put forth more consistent effort in my opinion. Especially on D, rebounding and running the floor. Also needs to work on his BBall IQ. I'd love to see him leading the bench with Burks down the road.

Hayward is a great supporting cast player. He plays a great all around game and will excell as a 2nd or even better a 3rd option. His ability to improve others around him once he is not "the guy" will shine thru. Good BBal IQ.

Burks is elite at driving, getting to the rim and FT line. He has made dramatic strides in the last 10 or so games. I truly hope he continues. If so I'd love for him to remain the 6th man and he could be one of the best, if not the best, in the league.

Burke is the leader of this team. He has shown great poise and that he is in this to win. He has shot very poorly but I think that will improve over time. While not the quickest PG I think he is being under rated there. Solid starting PG who can hit big shots.

It has been said that Corbin is going to be evaluated mostly on player improvement and D. Well the team D has been horrendous. There has been some player development in stretches. Such as Hayward in early January and Kanter and Burks right now. Overall though I think he is not renewed and moves on after this year. Mainly becuase of the D. Fair or not he is gone.

So my view of the future means we could use a starting wing and C/PF. Embiid or Parker anyone? Gobert, Kanter and Burks dominate as a bench.

Mostly agree with Stoked. DL likely brings back Marvin to start. Really can go PF or SF in the draft and be ok, especially if that player is physical. MW (either as a 3 or 4), Burke and Hayward provide the outside shooting. Favors, surprisingly, showed some mid-range game against Boston. I hope he can add this as a consistent part of his game.

I also agree Kanter and Burks likely come off the bench next season.

Starters: Burke, Hayward, Favors, Williams, #8 pick or FA
Bench: Burks, Kanter, Neto (or FA), #23 pick, Gobert, Evans

Not a bad group. Because of their youth, might finish around .500 and miss the playoffs one more season. Or could really surprise. I'm excited at the prospect of having a new coach. Ty has had a couple of seasons to install an offense and defense and I see nothing of note. And he continues to make puzzling in-game decisions. I'm sure he's a great guy and capable assistant, but he seems out of place as a head coach.
