Coronavirus

People who smoke, people who are alcoholics, don't they bear some responsibility for bad choices? If I caught the deadlier of the two strains of this coronavirus, in my present situation, in terms of age, and underlying conditions, it means it will most likely kill me. This I do believe. I have read what the final, most serious symptom is, and it would be very hard for me to survive the worst symptoms. My wife is still healing from 10 broken ribs, pneumonia always being a danger with that type of injury. Plus her own underlying conditions and age would also make death a very real possibility. If it does have a mortality rate of 3.4%, that is ridiculously more fatal then a flu with a 0.1% mortality rate. And you can bet that mortality rate is higher for someone my age and health. If I were in Wuhan at its worst, the mortality rate was 8% for someone like me. Now, I don't see the panic the cartoon you posted displays, but I'm not in Seattle, should at risk groups there be a tad nervous. And I am not in any state of panic myself. But, I'm not asleep at the wheel, either. I know this can kill me, and I know if I or my wife contract it, we are in deep ****.

Of course, this is my personal take. You're entitled to dismiss or laugh at the response to coronavirus in America to your heart's content....

...Spread of infection is not a natural disaster.

You don’t prepare the same as you would for an earthquake or a tornado. You won’t be at home for two weeks, isolated without resources, so you don’t need water, batteries or candles, says Nicholas Rupp, spokesman for the Salt Lake County Health Department.

“Utilities will function fine. Electricity, potable water, natural gas, you’ll have all that. So set those aside and focus on the things that are really applicable in this circumstance, things you might need because you shouldn’t leave your home,” he said.

His list includes prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines to relieve symptoms of a respiratory illness, food and cleaning supplies. He points out that health officials don’t know what type of cleaner is best against coronavirus, but the hardy norovirus has been susceptible to bleach.
...

The thought that you really, really need a mask is bad.

And it can create a shortage for those who really, really do.

Masks are for those who are sick to help avoid infecting others and for their close caregivers.

Shoppers are buying lots of items in greater quantity than they need, from toilet paper to canned goods. Experts and others say to remember that other people are also trying to prepare. Media outlets like The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times have been reporting on communities that are out of some preparation basics like hand sanitizer and cleaners. In Australia, they’ve even had a canned goods shortage.

This thread should be closed, locked up. It's been hacked, and diverted off-topic into an thread on Donald Trump.

The comments in here, by posters generally, and especially the linked materials from tweets, etc. make it impossible to use this thread to discuss the Corona Virus itself, or to get material in here that is relevant.

For God's Sake..... er…… Even for Marx's Sake......stop it.

I am, however, amused. A reasonable person coming into this site would, of course, have to just wonder...… Does anyone here even know about Chance Gardner???? There was a book, then a movie, about the Trump Presidency, I think..... a sort of prophetic work from the 1980s...…. what was it called????

"Being There", I think.

my bad, it was a 70s novel, and a 1979 movie. Of course, with all the Marxist propaganda destroying history and promoting a sort of "History of Now", none of you kiddies, like @Red, would know anything about it. Here's the movie trailer on YouTube:

Dear jackass: for the upteenth time, I am not a Marxist. You are such a stupid jerk. Now, go ahead and report me.

Nobody in here has read my posts on the Corona Virus, or you'd know what you need to know.....

CoVid-19 is a lab-made variant of MERS and SARS that attacks the tissues lining the lungs and is most dangerous because it creates damaged tissues that host secondary infections, like all Flu variants do, but much more effectively. It is slow-moving within the air passages because it binds very irreversibly to the surfaces of the cells, and has a longer replication period producing new virus, perhaps retarded somewhat by the cell death it causes when it binds. It is the most deadly flu strain yet. People with flu antibodies to other flu varieties will have some cross-over immunity or resistance, but not 100%. People who are healthy will create their own antibodies to this strain within normal replication cycles, resulting in a milder, or asymptomatic episode with their CoViD-19 infection.

The death rate, based on an average population, appears to be about 2.4%. It is less than 1% if you break out the population segments for younger, healthier adults, and more than that for older folks with health factors compromising their immune response of their ability to cope with the effects.

Chinese authorities sent out the CoViD-19 genome to labs all around the world, and several vaccines are already being tested, based on the best vaccine development protocols which will likely produce safe vaccines with few side effects or risk factors.

CoViD-19 may have initially been spread world-wide by attendees/competitors of a world-class sporting event in Wuhan in October 2019. It was likely the result of some lab material being accidentally released from a nearby research lab, an event I consider to be a risk of all viral research labs which, in reality, can never be made 100% safe because, after all, humans go in and out of these places every day...…...and lab workers have a much higher rate of affliction with morbid concerns for population problems and are more susceptible to the notion of saving the world by creating pandemics that can kill millions of excess humans. But it is certain that Xi, or the Chinese Red Army apparachik functionaries themselves would never deliberately set off such an event because of the financial effects......

vaccines will be available to first-responder professionals I think before the end of April. Some may already be getting vaccine as part of routine safety testing..... and I expect the general public to have access to the vaccines in late May...…. and besides all that, the climate in the Northern Hemisphere is generally warmer in late Spring through the Summer, a fact that will naturally reduce transmission factors.... warmer and drier in many areas.....

Besides vaccines, people can greatly reduce their personal risk by reducing or eliminating travel or time spent in public places with other humans in crowded conditions. The virus is spread in exhaled breath via microdroplets normal to breathing, and by coughing and sneezing. The droplets fall to the ground within a few feet, and likely remain on surfaces.... shopping carts, handrails, bus seats, etc. Don't pick up food you've dropped with bare hands and fail to wash after, or eat it. There is no fundamental reality to the "Five Second Rule" that makes food droppings "safe"..... LOL

You can also reduce risk by using hand sanitizers, washing hands, never putting your hands to your face, picking your nose or licking your fingers. KFC just isn't that good anyway. Chlorox or Lysol wipes have already been cleaned off the store shelves, but there will be more coming. Soap is almost as good. It will destroy this virus.

Widespread alarm, media hype, and public panic are all to the good here. People will change their behaviors, and the "Pandemic" might be reduced, and we could only express our gratitude first of all to Xi for at least getting the genome sent out quickly, and to our DumpTrump hypesters who with their public-spirited alarmism are going to save millions of human lives.

Dear jackass: for the upteenth time, I am not a Marxist. You are such a stupid jerk. Now, go ahead and report me.

You're a damned liar, Red. You might not even know who Marx is, but you have absorbed a lot of the ideas from your friends and idols. "Historical Determinism" evinced in your frequent references to me being on "the wrong side of history" is just one of dozens of such Marxist notions you love. And Jason might say "It's not a lie if you believe it", but the fact remains many proponents of progressivism believe lying for the cause is really a good thing, and they know when they are telling their lies, and don't really believe them themselves, so they know its a lie, and don't believe it.

And besides, I didn't call you a Marxist. Perhaps you are senile already. That would make you a nice, harmless old fart ready for the care center, but what I said in the @Red jab, was a joke, which I popped off with because of your earlier post in this thread about how old you are, and how your wife is suffering in some health respects as well, making you both "high risk" wrt this CoViD-19 virus outbreak.

The fact is, and remains, however, that I actually still believe you have the "Marxist" contagion like so many today, and since I believe that's true, I get to say so. I have Marxist friends, I don't think that is a slur or hate speech. Fully 50% of Americans today are fairly positive about their various elements of Marxist beliefs. I might not agree, but that is why I think it's helpful if we talk about such things. Increasing awareness of the nature of our ideas, and their origins, is a really good thing, generally.

Some of my own ideas could be called "Marxist", such as the Christian references to a millennial paradise or people transformed in their materialistic practices towards giving to the poor, etc etc etc. Our Puritan or Pilgrim fathers were initially,at least, "communist" when they stepped off the Mayflower onto Plymouth Rock. They proceeded to establish a centally-planned project with little though of private ownership. They were reduced, by starvation, to the necessity of permitting private gardening, and hunting in the woods for immediate nourishment.

I hope you read my post above about dealing with the CoViD-19 outbreak with better comprehension, and take the appropriate practical precautions, and that you and your wife fare well by using such common sense.

Take care, friend.

Here's a bold idea. Maybe if Trump decided, where the coronavirus is concerned, to simply STFU, his name wouldn't appear in this thread.....

**** you, you ignoramus. The only person on this forum who is obsessed with Marx is you!!
Or can't you tell? Who spends so much time ranting about Marx and Marxism? You do, babe, you do. And who else does? Nobody, babe, nobody. Just you! You're completely obsessed by a 19th century philosopher. You're still living in the 19th century, and half your damn posts involve Marx in some way or another. You got Marx on the brain, lol. Marx on the brain, and you're too stupid to even notice that you are the ONLY one who ever talks about Marxism on this forum.

The people who complain the most about the particular behavior of others are usually the very people committing the behavior themselves. My dad, who was a clinical psychologist, imparted that lesson to me. You are a perfect example of what he meant.

Nobody is looking forward to further lessons in Marxism from babe. This thread was not derailed by bringing up Trump. What the president has to say about the coronavirus is relevant. You know what is not relevant in this thread? Another boring Marx lecture by babe!

@babe is a ****ing idiot or troll. has to be.

yeah, the cheap labor markets overseas haven’t helped American corporate entities at all. yeah, these companies would be far better off paying Americans 50x the amount.

I could wonder about anyone with a prickiish handle being a troll, I suppose.... like "SirKickyAss"..... but there are a lot of those in this site.

The political fact of "Globalism" today, is that some cartelist, monopolist sorts of international operators really can't be realistically called by any national identity anymore, whatever their registration on citizenship or legal incorporation.

What Trump has done, in terms of taxes, tariffs, and other policies, is to make is more competive to locate operations here in this nation, with the result that our globalists, and their other-nationed counterparts, are hiring more workers here, and using more local smaller businesses services and products.

"MAGA", as a political agenda, means he intended to do a lot of stuff of that sort, which would be better business for us nationally. Easy to turn around the economy after decades of deliberate suppression of American jobs, use of American resources, all while deliberately promoting the favorable circumstances of locating operations in other countries.

If I refer to "American" businesses, generally, I am not being particular about ownership identities just the place of business.....as it relates to local politics.

I have long recognized the fact that huge differentials between countries in international economic realities will naturally subside if we stop manipulating our currency and regulating everything for political purposes. Moving other countries off of "Progressive" or "Statist" sorts of local fascist politics, and avoiding the perpetuation of global fascism, will always be the key to world prosperity as well as any national prosperity.+

There is no person of any persistence in this forum who doesn't either love Marxism, or hate it, maybe..... perhaps..... except me. I just think it's a stupid fabrication, a false political view from almost two centuries ago. Old, and out of date, and stupid.

The "Resistance" you have worked so hard over the past years to promote, is in fact an effort to diaplace the American Constitutional sort of "Republic" with a modern "Marxist" transitional governance, as many take it to be. I am here calling that profession a damned lie, and those who push it "damned liars". Progressives prefer not to directly explain how their program will overthrow our government and destroy human liberty.

Well, the word "damned" has an actual meaning, besides being an epithet, and I use it here for that meaning. It infers an action by God, I suppose, theoretically, that God has or will put a restriction on it. It means, in effect, that it is doomed. I don't particularly think it will take "God" to do that. We will do that, because people really want their liberty and rights and freedom, and no plan to control and managed them is well-founded or based on material reality let alone social reality. Human ideologies, and programs to manage the world, will all fail.

That is what I think of your "Historical Determinism" when you say I'm on the wrong side of history. History is what it was, not what things will be, but the fact is we choose what our history will be, to some extent, in the context of all we cannot change, by what we try to do.

If I refer to the "Marxist" content of your statements or ideas expressed, it's fair enough. Your proper response would be to explain how your idea differs from Marx. Or put me on ignore, or something.

Anyhoo…… This discussion of "Marxism" is in a degree relevant to the Corona Virus because of people's fears, in some quarters, of it's politicization or whatever, including notions which I think can't be realistically believed, of its deliberate release.

Political operators sometimes invoke, in the cause of Marxism or any of its modern variants, ideas about how proponents should not let any crisis go to waste, and this is a direct instruction to adherents of Progressivism etc that this "Crisis" must be exploited and politicized.

I think that is essentially what @Thriller, and other DumpTrumpsters are doing here.

Well, have fun kiddies. I think it's a harmless effort that will make Trump look good to most people.

But I also see a huge positive public health benefit, because it will incentivize Trump to be more pro-active to do stuff to control the outbreak, and to incentivize folks to do a lot more to reduce their risk-taking behaviors.

As I have noted above, this is the most serious variant of "flu" that we have seen yet.

Here's a bold idea. Maybe if Trump decided, where the coronavirus is concerned, to simply STFU, his name wouldn't appear in this thread.....

OK. But @Trump would never go for it. He will work every angle to the max to get the public notice.

Trump is not a member in here????/

Damn, I'll have to tweet his publicist. Pretty sure he will fix that.

i'm involved with our infectious disease protocols at work, while I don't have any direct contact with the coronavirus patients I oversee the decontamination work and transport them throughout the hospital, while catching it myself really doesn't concern me, I do care for my parents who would be at very high risk if they caught it. So it is concerning, depends on your circumstances really. the panic is a bit nuts tho.
