Coronavirus

Seventy-five percent of people who have died of the virus in the United States — or about 600,000 of the nearly 800,000 who have perished so far — have been 65 or older. One in 100 older Americans has died from the virus. For people younger than 65, that ratio is closer to 1 in 1,400.
Yes, the death rate for the majority of us is low.

The morbidity factors are what you should worry about. Between long-covid, MIS, blood clot factors/stroke, organ damage, fatigue and many others, it is scary for those under 65 as well.

There does not seem to be good data on the likelihood of any of these co-morbidities that come with COVID, but from the number of patients with issues in our best hospital, the percentages are high enough to cause concern.

Got my booster on Saturday along with the wife. Normal arm soreness, wife was pretty wiped on Sunday, but all in all, was by the numbers. My guess is this will be a seasonal thing and I'll expect another shot in the fall.

I know you're all curious what superpower the third shot brings, but so far, I've just been able to complete old-school Contra on the NES without losing a life which is a bit disappointing. Pfizer better get this together or I'll fly over there and give them the what for.

What’s hybrid immunity? I’ve never heard of this before.

It is the combination of vaccination and immunity from natural infection.

On that topic, there is a new study out of Hong Kong that indicates that everyone is going to get Omicron and probably pretty quickly. It replicates in human bronchus 70 times faster than Delta. The good news is that it doesn't replicate well in the deep lungs (10 times less than Delta), so no pneumonia.

Thanks for the info both of you.

Ugh I hope I don’t get it. I just got over RSV. Missed 3 days of work and haven’t been able to work out or sleep well for almost 9 days. I wake up with coughing spells.

I had a “mild infection” of the original Covid and my taste and smell have never fully recovered.
My wife's brother had it back in January and his taste is fine, but smell never returned.

I consider myself fortunate in that I don't believe I've ever had it and don't know anybody who's died from it (I have had work colleagues hospitalized), but recognize that I'm one of the lucky ones.

This is a classic example of what’s wrong with uncontrolled social media and the 24-hour news cycle. 99.9 percent of medical professionals know what’s up: masks help, social distance really helps, and vaccinations really, really help—this has been proven in the lab and in real-life, plus it’s also common sense. Yet there are these rogue “doctors” that spew this self-aggrandizing, inaccurate information supported by specious data or in most cases, no data at all. It’s an attention-getting ploy as an end to who-knows what means (money, power, look at me). Of course these are the ones FAUX News, et al, promote so this trash circulates among millions of anti-vax/Trumper **** wits who equate Dr. *** Clown with people who have an actual science-based agenda of keeping folks safe and healthy. That crowd desperately craves validation from someone with a degree, any degree and any opinion that aligns with their selfish recklessness so they can challenge the Fauci’s of the world, at least within their sewage-filled bubble. In the process the number of people they continue to get sick and kill are just casualties in the continuing war on truth.

I used to think humans wouldn’t make it another thousand years but since the pandemic I’m adjusting that number downward to 500. And I’ll bet anyone a paycheck I’m right about that.

I'll take that bet. Is the paycheck at today's value or what you'll be earning 500 years from now?
I bet you will both be dead 500 years from now. I will bet both of you my paycheck.

I will see you in 501 years to collect!

Heh. Sucker.

Sounds like the new variant will not only transmit itself more easily, but might be a bit more severe than was once feared now that more data has been collected and it's been spread. Hoping it's still less than Delta was symptom-wise and it sounds like that's the most likely case.

Hard to believe that Covid only got real when our very own Rudy Gobert got it and the OKC game was cancelled. Kind of surreal how that was the grand entrance of the pandemic of our times.

What a number history is going to do on this evil clown…

The committee wrote that Birx stated in her interview that changes made on testing guidance for people who were asymptomatic "were made specifically to reduce the amount of testing being conducted," the report said. Fewer tests served to "obscure how rapidly the virus was spreading across the country," it said.

“Trump Administration officials engaged in a staggering pattern of political interference in the pandemic response and failed to heed early warnings about the looming crisis," the committee said in its summary. "These decisions placed countless American lives at risk, undermined the nation's public health institutions, and contributed to one of the worst failures of leadership in American history."

And yet millions in this country have the nerve to attack Biden and the Democrats right now? Yet millions want to be empower republicans in 2022 and re-elect this clown in 2024?
