Cougars 2011-12 Football Discussion

All joking aside.. Riley Nelson's go for broke approach is infinitely more exciting than anything jake hypes has put together and at least a couple of steps more effective. I think since he took the helm we havent punted more than once... All possessions end in either a score or a turnover haha

Truly, you gotta love the guy.

The guy is pretty much untouchable whenever teams try to blitz him; he is just toying with guys out there. I don't think that whole "Just wait until they game plan for him." line of thinking is going to work out for his doubters. You can't plan for his ad libbing, and he can throw the long ball and has done it over and over again accurately now so you can't play up. The throw he made when he threw that pick 6 is really the only throw you don't want him trying, both because it's probably not going to get you a lot of yards even if it's completed and because he throws it a little too soft for that specific play and there isn't anybody on the other side of the DB once he's got it in his hands. Easiest play to take to the house for the defense.. Other than that, BYU's WRs haven't changed anything, they simply have someone that is willing to throw it up there for them now and they are going to win that battle 90% of the time because they are all big and can jump.

Well, at least Hoffman appears to be... Apo has disappeared the last couple of games.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with him. He appears to be a bit overhyped, just because I don't think his top line speed and ability to stretch the field are as great as people were hoping, but he still has the kind of talent to be a 100/yd game type college WR eventually. He took a couple of hits in those earlier games and his boy Heaps gets benched, and all of the sudden the guy seems like he is mentally vapid right now and has lost all his swagger. It would be nice if he could finish out the year strong because Hoffman/Apo could be a great combo if they both can ever be on at the same time.

Apo is a Redshirt Freshman for hell sakes. You are writing him off already?

Writing him off = saying he has 100 yard/game potential? That would put him in the higher echelon of college football WRs. I would guess there are probably around 20 or so doing that this year. So if he is a top 20 WR in the future, I don't think it's writing him off. He's going to make plenty of DBs look completely silly before he is done and he'll probably be drafted in the NFL. I think it's also important to note that he does run long routes even if he's not getting thrown to so he is valuable just by taking defenders out of the picture. He just had a lot of hype - that's all. I think the fan world is a lot better when you don't pay attention to recruiting or preseason reports and I've been slowly doing more of exactly that.

Just read:
https://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/cougars/52723489-88/nelson-byu-cougars-game.html.csp

"...BYU has punted only once in the nearly 10 quarters since Nelson took over the offense [but has six turnovers]"

So you nailed it exactly. Just one punt since Nelson took over.

BYU can't help out Little Bro by slapping around some Pac-12 teams? Someone has to do it, right?
You're right. BYU has to take up the torch of beating the entire PAC 12. Way stoked BYU beat not only more than one PAC 12 team yesterday, but that they beat the entire PAC 12. Thanks. You're either really smart, really honest, or really whatever it is you're trying to go for.

Cutting the sarcasm, I get that you're trying to talk ****. But it doesn't really work when it makes no sense. Maybe by spewing confusingly stupid non-sense you're hoping to implode some people's minds. Well, mission accomplished.
