Could Gobert eventually replace Favors in the Lineup?

Yep I agree.

By the end of the year it should be pretty clear whether we let go of Favors or Kanter for an All Star PG (i.e., Rond) or a future star (i.e., Andrew Harrison).

I see Gobert and Hayward as part of that team. I can also see Evans, Ian and even Lucas as part of that squad. Kanter could play a similar Okur role, but much stronger and better low-post. Not sold on Burke yet but he is looking better. Burks is a bit wild still. Favors makes too many mistakes as well. Both of those guys need to settle down and not take so many risks. Burke seems like that as well, but not quite as wild.

Yeah initially I had Favors & Burke for Andrew Harrison. Creating this kick-*** lineup of:

Gobert
Kanter
Wiggins (or Jabari)
Hayward
Harrison

Pretty sure that will make the Jazz the next OKC in 2-3 years' time. You have defensive presence in Gobert. Offensive powers in Kanter, Wiggins and Harrison. Playmaking abilities of Harrison & Hayward.

HOWEVER

With Favors' offensive game coming along at a pretty rapid pace, it's probably worth waiting until the end of the year to see who we can keep and who we'll likely let go for the Andrew Harrison straight swap (or Rondo, Lillard, etc).

That's the thing, we don't really know for sure how these guys will develop over the course of the year. I'm hoping Favors continues to play smarter and develop that offensive game that's looking better every game. If he does, then we have our starting PF. I would actually prefer Gobert to start with Favors. Kanter is more of a PF in his style of play. Gobert is more of a traditional C. That would match up well with either of those guys because Gobert doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective. Of course, mixing and matching will all depends on who we're playing. Other times it won't matter because all 3 have been showing great improvement against all competition.

Rudy Gobert has passion for the game. He wants in on the job. Both on offense and defense. Mainly on defense. It's like you can hear him say "Come on baby, come to daddy!" to block his opponent. He is swimming like a shark in there and perform exceptionally well on pick and roll defense, especially compared to last season. He can raise his hand quickly, he can box out really well, he can stay balanced on layups, or under the rim situations and most importantly, he does not bring the Goddamn ball down Enes! His basketball IQ is really obviously higher than Enes Kanter, which is both sad and thrilling to me.

Sad because I want Enes to achieve everything he possibly can, but he showed less than he was expected to.

Thrilling, because finally I can watch a player like Gobert's size, talent and IQ grow. It has its own joy a lot like what I get from watching Ömer Aşık (Watch out for the Pelicans rim protectors this season by the way).

The only thing that I think twice about him is his ability to make it about 35 minutes a night. I don't know if he will ever be able to carry the burden of the physical basketball played in NBA for 82 games and 35 minutes a night, but he is young and hopefully get there. And all the foul calls feel like timeouts x 3 anyway.

Another thing those big defensive minded centers face is that, when they try to bulk up to face harder opponents, they lose their cleanliness of wrists. That naturally requires a lot more time spent on shooting practices, mainly free throws, because they get fouled a lot under the rim, reasoning from being unstoppable to most.

I hope his basketball skills continue to blossom. I love watching a player like him.

Oy vey. This board is in nutso mode. It's to be expected I guess given it's August.

I love the kid and have huge hopes, but if we're marching Gobert out there a lot, say 25 minutes a night, we'll be lucky to win 20 games.

Gobert was extremely raw when he was drafted: a huge project overlooked by almost every team in the league. Last season, Corbin SHOULD have found 10-15 mins for Rudy in every game. This year, Gobert just needs to play 82 games, around 18 mins each game behind Favors. He's still learning, still developing. But like addictionary said, Gobert has passion - #hunger. You can't teach that. Rudy is driven to improve. He's a lot bigger and stronger than he was last year. It won't happen this year - and maybe not next - but I could really see him pushing Favors to PF in 2 years time. Radically, maybe Gobert becomes our "Ginobili" at that point. He still plays close to 30 mins, but comes off the bench.
