Could We Use Trey Burke

The problem why these players could not perform in utah is because they treated these players like muppets. They did not give these players the chance to be themselves on the court. Exum is a good example. Every time he made a mistake on the court snyder just benched him or gave him a few DNP~CDs.

If exum wants to advance his carrer, he needs to leave like others. He is not playing with freedom in utah right now, not to mention the fact that he is only getting 10 minutes a game.

So much dumb in this thread.

Today Exum came into the game at the 1:33 mark in the first, and we were down 10. At 8:42 in the second quarter, he hit the basket that put us in front by 1, after dishing out 4 assists and scoring 4 points in a 16-5 run. A Favors putback and a Favors free throw were the only points not scored or assisted by Exum during that run, and Favors and Ingles were the only starters on the court with him. But yeah, our bench is trash and Exum should be replaced by Burke. Sheesh.

As for the ex-Jazzmen "prospering":
- Lyles only got court time initially because Millsap broke his wrist, but decided to put in some effort (unlike when he was with us), put up some numbers, and has managed to stay in the rotation even after Saps return. Still can't play D though.
- Kanter was another who, by his own admission, didn't try when he played for Utah. As soon as he went to OKC he tried passing to his team-mates, something he rarely did in Utah. Still didn't try playing D, so in his second season, lost his starting job to Adams. Barely got off the bench in the playoffs last season. Since his first OKC season, has played less minutes per game than in Utah - including this season as a starter in NYK. Still can't play D though.
- Burke was a back-up in WAS before they signed Brandon Jennings, then collected DNPs throughout March and April. Scored in double-figures 4 times all season, including the meaningless season finale. Never tallied more than 5 assists in any game all year. Out of the league until called up from the G-League by NYK in January, he is averaging less minutes per game than for any season he was with UTA - although he is shooting a higher percentage and scoring and assisting more per minute, so it seems he has learned how to shoot and pass since leaving. Still can't play D though.
- Mack was never a good player, but went to the right college. All he got with UTA was lots of minutes to showcase his lack of talent, particularly his penchant for turnovers. In fact, he set a career high for turnovers/36 minutes in a season while with UTA. He's now playing significant minutes for a team that is blatantly tanking. Also playing the worst D of his career.

I guess when Simmons is having the worst month of his career right now you have to make up other dumb **** like this. Every month in the NBA he is getting worse. Teams have figured him out and come playoffs he will be a liability when no one guards him and puts him on the line if he gets any momentum.

Mack is not playing anywhere near the level he did with the Jazz who were a much better team, not garbage time points like he gets now.

Lyles was hot for a bit but after he got benched he is playing just like he did with the Jazz last year. He is pouting and cant make a shot to save his life. His 3 point % the last couple months is awful.

Trey Burke should be better than he was as a rookie/sophmore. Every player should improve. Unfortunately for him he is still a meh player. He is stat stuffing on a team that is losing badly. They have won 3 games in the last 2 months.

Enes is the same player he was with the Jazz and OKC. Just getting a few more minutes because they suck and need him. But he still plays no defense and is a liability in the 4th.

You just want Exum to play more, but the Jazz are developing him. They cant help that he has missed 3 of the last 5 years playing basketball. He would have got more minutes this year if he wasnt hurt. He would have got more last year if he wasnt on a minutes restriction recovering. Injuries suck. Its a good thing Exum is on one of the best teams in the NBA for developing guys and who are patient enough to deal with Exum.

I love the “play with freedom and express themselves on the court” line. Don’t think that got enough attention in this whole conversation. The underlining thing about all 4 guys (Kanter, Lyles, Burke and Mack) is that they’re terrible on defense. Terrible. No competent coaching staff is going to give guys like that free reign unless they are spectacular offensive players - which they aren’t. Hood is in the same category.

It’s also a reason why I think they keep Dante. He’s not been great on offense thus far, but he has shown great potential on defense. That means more to Utah than it does to other teams in the NBA.
