Countdown to a Letdown--aka Jazz trade deadline 2014

Yeah I'm pretty sure there is a rule that you can't trade 1st round draft picks in consecutive drafts. They wouldn't be able to give a pick for the 2015 NBA draft

Is the rule that they can trade in consecutive drafts in one trade or at all? For example, I thought teams could trade the 2014 pick in one trade and the then the 2015 pick in another, but they could trade 2014 and 2015 picks as part of the same trade. Not sure, just how I understood it.

I'm pretty sure teams have to have a first round pick every other draft, maybe....

You just can't trade consecutive first round picks. yaaa.....

Hated this trade at first..... then i look at the lineup and think it has some potential.

Still probably dont do it though

It's not a bad trade at all. It just depends on what your goals are. If your goals are 4-7 seed in the West, win the first round most years, maybe make a conference finals in the next 5-6 years, then do that trade and get in a good coach.

If you want more than the Deron era, then don't do the trade.

Yes, and the rule was referred to as the Stepien Rule when it was put into effect.
Cleveland's owner back in the early 80's was Ted Stepien and he made a series of very bizarre trades. In the space of just a few months of owneship, Stepien had traded away all but one 1st-round pick from 1981-1987. And the trades were incredibly one-sided (none in Cleveland's favor). The commissioner at the time, Larry O'Brien, stepped in, halted trading and ordered an investigation into the team's business practices. Stepien was either the dumbest owner ever (Donald Sterling compared against him would be considered a genius) or there was something going on under the table.

It’s unsettling to a lot of people,” said one Eastern Conference executive, speaking about the new commanders-in-chief in general. “There are a lot of old-school GMs dealing with new-school GMs and there’s more suspicion than there needs to be. A deal you would normally do without hesitation is being held up because you don’t know who you’re dealing with. Are they going to leak the deal? Use it to leverage another one? Deals that would be getting done aren’t, at least not right now.” -

So Boston is trying to team up Hayward and Chandler Parsons.

Or did they give up on Hayward and decide it was cheaper to get Parsons?

Still no Jazz trade news, but I've been told the team is willing to entertain offers on just about every player on the roster.

Jody is such a tease.
