Countdown to Training Camp

Time to start a countdown. It feels like fall, I got my late summer fishing trip done, the kids are back in school, I got my school bus back parked on the lawn, and I am ready to get excited for Jazz Basketball.

Players report on Sept 30th, that is media day. Training camp starts the next day.

I thought a countdown thread to media day would help build the energy and anticipation.

so.....

27 days to media day.....

Last year Randy Foye blocked 27 shots. ICYMI Randy Foye was signed and traded to Denver. He lead the Jazz in 3pt fg made (178) the next highest on teh Team was Gordon Hayward (102) who only started 27 games for the jazz last season. In his 27 starts the Jazz were 14-13.

Marvin Williams is 27 years old this year, he might be back before the season starts, he might be out until December. On December 27th (friday) the Jazz will host the LA Lakers. It be the Jazz's first game in 4 nights, the Lakers play Christmas day against the Heat. The Jazz will play their 27th game of the season in Miami against the Heat.

In the Stockton, Malone & Jerry Golden Age the Jazz had 7 seasons where they lost 27 games or fewer.

In Tyrone Corbins first 27 games as a head Coach the jazz were 7-20. In the last 27 games of last season they were 12-15.

Brandon Rush was 27 last year, he played in 2 games for a combined 25 minutes.
Andris Biedrens is 27, he averaged 9.3 minutes per game last year in GS. The lowest of his career. He scored 21 points last season.
Richard Jefferson is not 27, he is old (32) and only started one game.
When John Lucas was 27 he was playing in China. Last season with the raptors he played 14 minutes against the Jazz in the infamous triple overtime game. He had 2 assists and no turnovers. Had Earl or Jamal forced just one turnover Lucas would have ended 2013 season with 27 turnovers to 105 assists. The Trey Burke mentor has started 2 nba games.

Speaking of Trey, He had 24 points and 3 assists (24 +3= 27) in the national championship game. He also average 9 pts and 4 assist in 27 minutes at the Summer league.

im dying for media day. its exciting its less than a month away.
then the news, and daily reports will pick up again

I've been gone for a while. Can anyone fill me in on any significant changes to the team for the upcoming season?

GO JAZZ!! I am so pumped!

Most important question from this thread is - Where did Mellow go for his late summer fishing trip?

Where is that?

I don't want to ignore your question, but its my secret spot.....so it was about a 3 hour drive and a 45 minute hike from my house. The fish went back in the water as always.

It was a bad day too. If it wouldn't have been for that guy I wouldn't have much to talk about. Small streams = big fun. I hope to make one more trip out there before the Jazz's first game.

The only starter remaining from last season is Gordon Hayward, and he didn't start the whole year. This means that the second unit is now the first unit. The only Jazz free agent that re-signed with the team was........um.......... Marvin? he opted in, so yeah, him. The team picked up three players from Golden State for draft picks. They are old, broken, or injured. They drafted three players, keeping one overseas. Then they signed an undrafted player who just might be more game ready than their three picks. Oh, they signed a point guard who is guaranteed not to get in the way of the new savior of the team. (no, not the undrafted guy, the guy who is less game ready)

The Jazz have had the 26th selection in the draft just once. In 1976 the NO Jazz selected Jacky Dorsey with the 26th pick (9th pick in 2nd round). Jacky was a 6-7 230 lb forward from Georgia. He was waived 4 months after being drafted. He bounced around the league for a few years playing in just 60 games before he couldn't play anymore at the ripe old age of 26.

Two Jazz players wore the #26.

John Amaechi had 26 offensive rebounds in his last season with the Jazz.

Kyle Korver 26 years old when he was traded to the Jazz on December 29, 2007 by the Philadelphia 76ers for Gordan Giricek and a 2010 1st round draft pick (Trevor Booker was later selected).

On Februay 9, 2013 against SACTown, Alec Burks Scored his carreer high, 26 points. 8/16 from the field, 1/2 from 3pt, 9/9 from the foul line all in 27 minutes. Alec has played atleast 26 minutes in only 20 NBA games, I'm personally hoping to see more of Alec this season.

Gordon Hayward scored exactly 26 points twice last season. March 15th in a win against Minnysota. And Feb 25th in a loss against Boston. In his career Hayward has scored 26 or more points in only 6 games. The Jazz are 4-2 in those games. He may be called upon to carry the Jazz offensivley, is he capable of doing that?

In his first 3 seasons Thurl Bailey had 26 points in 6 games. The Jazz were 5-1 in those games.

All but three of the players on the team are 26 and younger, and every single starter is younger than 26 unless Rush starts.

DYK- That Enes the Menace, played atleast 25 minutes in just 6 games last year. Although the Jazz were only 3-3 in those games, Enes averaged 9.5 rebounds and nearly 16 points.

Prettt amazing averages for just 25 minutes

Prettt amazing averages for just 25 minutes

Yes, given minutes Enes should be able to produce. Given 30-33 minutes a night imagine what he could be....
maybe the low post player that draws a double team that much of the Jazz offense if built around?

But there is a dark side....tune in Saturday to find out what.

86 NBA games were decided by 25 or more points last season. The Jazz won 2 and lost 2 by 25 or more.

It should be noted in the race to the bottom that Sacramento, Washington, CHarlotte, Phoenix, Orlando and Detroit all lost more blow-out games than the Jazz.
