Culturally Insensitive man bets a million dollars...

But it is of her?
He said himself.

People can have different standards for themselves than they do for others.

If they are fine with representing that group, then that's completely fine.

If it were me though, it would be hard to look myself in the mirror. That said, I'm completely ignorant on how that works and the Cherokee bloodline. If you have any educational articles to read, please share.

Since we get into ancestry I want to share this video. I’ve watched it several times. It’s good stuff. We are all connected eventually. And I think many of us would be surprised about where we come from.

This is cringeworthy in the worst way and such an insult to actual native americans. Both of them should be thoroughly ashamed, her for even referring to this to use for political capital and him for pathetic childish mocking.

Who decides where to draw the line though?

Well not you, that's for sure.

In sociology, it's pretty simple. You're a part of an ethnic group if you consider yourself to be part of that group and if they generally consider you to be part of their group. That's how membership in Indian tribes works in the US. They set a standard, you have to meet it. You also have to want to meet it, as they're not going to force you to be a Cherokee if you don't want to be.

Wasn't it the Boston Globe who started it back in 2012? I suggest reading that article. Her family is all over the place. Lol
"Warren acknowledged that she had identified herself as a minority in a legal directory for nearly a decade, and she was listed as a Native American in federal forms filed by the law schools at Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania where she worked. Warren has never fully explained her assertion of Native American ancestry, and her Republican opponents continue to brand her a liar. Officials from both schools have said that her assertion of ancestry was not a factor in her hiring."
Yes, Warren has claimed to be Cherokee too.
She's less than 1% (more than likely she's 1/512)
To me, she was just exposed for being a fraud. If you're less than 1% of a minority, you don't get to say you're a minority and be hyped as being culturally different.

Watch a video of her talking about her heritage (I posted one on here.) She milks it, man. She took a childhood story and ran with it. She hasn't just simply said she has Native blood in her tree and you're naive to believe that.

As much as I hate Trump, calling her Pocahontas is a pretty good ringer. Especially after bragging about her DNA test. No one cares if you're 1/512 of something. That said, Trump should pay her.

I totally thought there was no way in hell liberals would be apologists for a 99% white lady touting/defending she's a minority and has been recognized as a minority at Harvard. Isn't that whitesplaining (I think that's the term I'm looking for?)

If it's not, it's culture appropriation to the T.
"Cultural appropriation is the adoption of elements of a minority culture by members of the dominant culture. Because of the presence of power imbalances that are a byproduct of colonialism and oppression, cultural appropriation is distinct from equal cultural exchange." She wrote a book called, Pow Wow Chow. Lol
You are being disingenuous here about her childhood story of her Native ancestry and outright lying (or simply wrong I guess) about her writing that book.

In the video she describes a family situation where their Indian background was a cause of friction between one parent's family and the other. Something that was even brought up at a funeral. This goes beyond simply taking a story she heard one time and running with it.

As for the Pow Pow Chow book, she didn't write it, she was asked by her cousin to contribute a recipe for it. A fact that bolsters her claim that their Indian ancestry was of importance to her family.

I mean, who the hell is Indian in the US if your standards are full-blooded? Especially east of Mississippi?

What I want to know is if Russell M. Nelson has invited her to Salt Lake to talk about her Lamanite heritage.

She should at least get to sit in a luxury box for a Jazz game.

Have a coworker from Puerto Rico. But is fathers side is from gypsies in the Persian area. So he’s a nice mix.

Well this little old lady comes in and asks him “are you one of those Lamanites?” He just laughs.

After she leaves he turns to me and says “what the ****s a lamanite?”

I laughed my *** off.

Once again, we find our middle-of-the-road, just-looking-for-information poster parroting right-wing talking points.

Whitesplaining is white people telling minorities what it means to be a minority, how they should feel about being minority, how they are treated as a minority, etc., when the minority has a life's worth of experience in these matters.

If it's not, it's culture appropriation to the T.

A book sponsored by the Cherokee tribe and with contributions issued on requests of Cherokees.

Don't try to use terms you think are buzzwords. You're really bad at it.

What the **** is a lemenite?

Im 1\32 cherokee card carrying member thought it might relavent to this thread, hasnt got me ****

The current Chief of the Cherokee is 1/32 Cherokee and has 31/32 European ancestors. That's 5 generations and based on his age, the Cherokee ancestor in question was born around 1800. That's actually fairly close to the lower range of where Warren's ancestor is. If the Cherokee accept him not just as a member but have elected him chief, who are you to say it's disingenuous?

The actual Cherokee nation says its disingenuous, for starters:

"A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America," Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. said. "Sovereign tribal nations set their own legal requirements for citizenship, and while DNA tests can be used to determine lineage, such as paternity to an individual, it is not evidence for tribal affiliation. Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven. Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

Waiting on a moron to whitesplain to the Cherokee Nation why they should not be offended by what Elizabeth Warren has done. . .
