Ok, so currently we have 16 players on our roster plus the rights to Hanlan and Pleiss.

I think it's pretty much a guarantee Hanlan isn't signed and Jerrett gets cut. Jerrett is guaranteed, but we are way under the cap so spending some extra $$$ shouldn't be a concern to Miller. I'm also going to assume we sign Pleiss since the reports are saying it's very likely. By cutting Jerrett and signing Pleiss we are back at 16. We have to cut one.

Exum - Burke - Cotton - Neto
Burks - Hood - Millsap
Hayward- Ingles - Johnson
Favors - Booker - Lyles
Gobert - Pleiss - Cooley

It seems pretty obvious it's one of: Cotton, Johnson, or Cooley. Millsap seems safe since he didn't even play in SL.

So, who do you think gets cut?

I voted Cooley.

Cotton and Johnson both seem like they can make an impact in a NBA game that matters.

Just not sure about Cooley. He isn't a good defender and he isn't a good finisher against length. I just don't think he can play against NBA rotational size.

If we lose a center to injury we can always slide Favors to spot 5-man minutes and drop Hayward/Hood to spot 4-man minutes.

It also makes sense given the Jazz vision of playing with pace and shooting. Cotton is a good shooter and Johnson seems like he is getting better.

I just don't see how you cut Johnson with what he has shown in SL. He has just been an all around good player on both ends.

If Pleiss signs Cooley is gone, I was hoping Hanlan could be a Randy Foye type but it doesn't look good for him.
Johnson and Cotton have had their moments in SL probably enough to make it, Cotton and Neto rotating to Idaho- but perhaps we shouldn't rule out two or three for one type deals.

Johnson and it isn't even close.

Johnson and it isn't even close.

Johnson can actually play basketball though.

Cooley is cool and I get everyone loves the guy who hustles and plays hard (though Johnson has been doing that too from the wing position while actually playing defense and not constantly fouling), but he just cant play against NBA centers at all. He also fouls like a madman because he is terrible on defense.

I stick by my "it isn't even close".

Johnson has low-key been the 2nd best player on the team (besides Exum the 1st game). He has literally done everything on the court each game. He is just everywhere.

He has been playing great defense in SL where his bigs are largely incompetent defensively.

He has been hitting his 3pt shot (limited sample of course).

His passing has been extremely good.

He has been coming up with loose balls everywhere.

I just see 0 way you cut him over Cooley.

Other than "I like Cooley because he plays hard" there is no reason to keep him over Cotton or Johnson.

We are going to have 3 players on the roster who can play C, don't need another.

Also think it's incredibly standard to carry 6 wings.

Really think this comes down to Cotton or Cooley getting cut.

Johnsons game impresses me more and more. He doesnt try and do too much, and is a good facilitator of the offense.

Cotton has outplayed Burke, and Im one of Treys biggest homers, perhaps his only one. Dal is off the wagon isnt he?
I'm comfortable with a rotation of Exum, Neto, and Cotton. Losing Burke may come back to bite us, but Cotton has simply
played more consistent than Trey in a smaller sample size.

Cooley has give us energy, toughness, and great funny quotes. I dont think we lose much by not having him on the roster. Yes hes good enough to
be a 12man for us. No he is not better than Cotton or Johnson. Sorry Cools you are the odd man out. Keep your cell next to your bed though.

I cannot fathom a single way that losing Burke will come back to bite us. Very very few all-stars followed a career trajectory that had them steadily getting worse, then suddenly improving to all-star levels. Unless he ends up an all-star at some point there would be not regret in letting Burke go for a ham sandwich.

Maybe he'll decide to join a buddhist monastery and give up all his material possessions to the fanbase of his team.

That is a hard one to answer. They probably will all be with the team in preseason camp, along with some other players and that's when a decision will be made. It's really hard for me to make a decision right now. I don't think Cooley is an NBA player to be fair. He's undersized, under-quick, un-athletic, underskilled, over-hustle... I like Johnson best out of all of them - he has both the size and the skill of an NBA player.

For me the choice would be between 4th PG in Cotton and 3d center/4th PF in Cooley... and to be absolutely fair... If we are talking about the 15th place on the roster... I don't really care. I like both of them, but I don't think it makes much of a difference either way. Skill-wise I'd pick Cotton, need/positional saturation-wise I'd pick Cooley.

He could put it together in year 3 or 4. As an asset if we trade low, or lose talent it would sting.
I will admit that is unlikely, and we currently have a lot of young prospects at the position.

As someone who is a lot more willing than some to give Burke another chance, I admit that now
he really isnt needed. Unless he breaks out it wont hurt us.

Glad to see you guys have some rational thoughts... Cooley, as much as he has had a great SL, can not make it in the NBA. Cotton/ Johnson look like they can contribute + develop into contributors.

Sucks for any of the three. All three played well in SL. I say cut Cotton as he has 3 PGs ahead of him in the rotation now.

Cooley would be our 3rd string C and Johnson our 3rd string SF.

After last night if either Cooley or Cotton get cut it would be like DL shooting Old Yeller. I don't know if there is a way to pay some of the youngsters like O"Brien, Hanlan, Motum a "signing bonus" legally and then send them to Boise for the DLeague.
