D Locke on Mike and Mike

How embarrassed should we be that our radio guy is smarter than probably any other radio guy and probably loves the team as much as any media personality has ever loved his team?

Apparently, really embarrassed.

Locke haters are clowns. Because Drunk Rod Hundley abusing everyone off of his turf and mispronouncing every other name was better?

"I'm not well, and I care too much. I have no idea what I said." What a breath of fresh air.

Nobody is saying the man is stupid. He is just a horrible radio announcer. Sorry, if you have ever listened to a Jazz radio broadcast then this would be obvious. Or maybe you enjoy his "and he throws down a hunk of love" statement when it comes to someone on the Jazz dunking the ball. I personally prefer a guy who is not a total homer that actually tells you what's happening during the game. Makes for a better listening experience.

My issue with Locke is that he tries too hard to be clever, fitting in Elvis song titles, etc., rather than calling the game. When I am in the car, listening to a game, it's hard to decipher what his groans and grunts sometimes mean, as he often forgets to verbalize what just happened. He also can go a long time without letting the listener know the score, which is a huge no-no in my book.

Exactly my point. He goes off on tangents sometimes that are not even related to the game. Like you said though, not getting the score from him is annoying.

Locke isn't perfect, and he knows he isn't. Even less perfect is the medium of radio. He tries too hard, he could scale back his trying to say quirky things, but that's the job. People want a guy that says slick things in a slick way. Locke's not that guy, and he's faulted for trying.

Maybe Locke should just knock back liquor all night. Apparently that's the recipe for champions of guys that sit in front of a mic and say stuff.

Go, David!

Actually, a lot of us love Locke's passion and knowledgeability. He's not just a no-nothing talking head; he prepares for every game and provides insights you'd never get from the TV guys. I turn off the TV mumbo jumbo and listen to Locke and Boone. Besides, Locke actually cares about the team, and his emotion is appreciated, even if it spins out of control from time to time.

If that helps him tell us the score then I will buy his first round. Or if it helps him stop testing out these ridiculous statements. I honestly would prefer Locke have Alema's job and someone else doing radio. It would be a win win in my book. Locke gets put in a spot where I think he can succeed and add good insight, Alema is out of a job, and we get someone better to do radio. I am not asking for Vin Scully here. I just wish Locke was not the voice of the Jazz.

You think Harpring or Bolerjack don't care about the team?

I don't think BabyPeterzz is saying anything that isn't true. It was a meltdown. It's funny.

As far as Locke by himself v lolerjack and "Matty", it's not even a competition. The Jazz's lead TV guy doesn't know what a skip pass is or that it's a "reach in" foul, not a "reach around" foul. I feel like I'm watching a Christopher Guest movie listening to lolerjack try to call a game.

Someday, Harpring is going to call Boler out on his misuse of "skip pass" and this is what it's going to end like:

Exactly, and I +1 all of Numbs posts thus far.

That was great. If you have not listened to this then go and listen to it right now.
