D Locke on Mike and Mike

Locke isn't perfect, and he knows he isn't. Even less perfect is the medium of radio. He tries too hard, he could scale back his trying to say quirky things, but that's the job. People want a guy that says slick things in a slick way. Locke's not that guy, and he's faulted for trying.

Maybe Locke should just knock back liquor all night. Apparently that's the recipe for champions of guys that sit in front of a mic and say stuff.

You must have never heard locke

Like what everyone else is saying, he is a terrible listen. So many times you can't even tell what's going on in the game. I get that its hard and maybe he will get better, but right now I am no fan.

Another thing he does that annoys the heck out of me is the way he talks when he does radio. He is one of those guys who never finishes a sentence, he is always stuttering, pausing, and starting his sentences over. Half the time I am yelling at the radio for him to spit out what he is saying.

and he doesn't know crap about basketball skill. He is way too much of a stat guy for me.

Someday, Harpring is going to call Boler out on his misuse of "skip pass" and this is what it's going to end like:

That was unbelievably awkward. The closest thing to a moment like that this year was when Bolerjack and Harpring were talking about Favors inheriting Harpring's numbers 15 and Bolerjack said, "He must have grabbed it out of the trash can." Harpring responded, "At least I had a number."

I Think David Locke is great. He loves the team and he really isn't bad on the radio. He may not be the best but he isn't bad. Also, you have to love his passion for the Jazz. He does a lot of in depth stuff which is nice. I think we should give him a little more credit. I do admit that the Hunk of love comment is a little over the top, but he still does a good job. He could work on saying the score more often, but all in all he's good not bad.

I haven't listened to him much since his first stint here in Salt Lake, but, I really liked him then. I can see how his voice and attitude rubs folks the wrong way, but, I appreciate how well he researches his arguments and presents them. I'd much prefer listening to a bunch of manufactured stats than some meandering discussion about fry sauce.

Just me though. If you like the Fry sauce approach to the game more power to you. I prefer a guy who's into the stats. I like Boler, seems like a good guy. Just doesn't add much of anything to the game to me. Harpring is just a little annoying, but, I figure maybe little old ladies like him for something. To each their own.

If that's what it takes for Boler to understand the difference between a skip pass and a bounce pass, I'm all for it.

"Garnett for 2, count it. That's a long 2 pointer, his right leg just inside the 3pt line, so Mike, that means they give him two points." Hahahahaahahahaha

Hahahahahahahaha. I can see why they started to get on each others nerves after watching that video.

Margo's take on Locke:

We now live in a society where it's easier and more "in vogue" to be cynical. I personally have nothing wrong with somebody who does something 100X better than I could, and does it with passion. Does he do a few things that bother me? Yes. Does he try to sound cool/clever? Yes. Is he now going to let these 15 min go to his head and try to come up with other outlandish calls that will get him more national pub? Probably. But he puts a ton of time and passion into his job, and give us a ton of insight and data on the team, so I'll keep listening to his podcasts and his calls and not complain about it.

if you're really looking for a change, i hear the spanish play-by-play guys do a nice job. ;)

i give locke credit for caring, but also for having the whatever-you-call it to sit there with mike & mike and laugh about it. obviously he doesn't take himself too seriously, so it's cool that he can joke about the situation. his whole schtick since he got the job is that he's a rabid fan-boy to whom the jazz somehow gave a microphone... and those 12 seconds of radio pretty much prove that it's not an act. again, i can respect & understand that.

Well said. As much as I hate that Locke won't say the damn score of the game for about 15-20 minutes at a time, I can't fault his love for the team.

That sound clip was hilarious though, I hadn't heard it until today. What's funny is I think I made the same sound he made as I was watching it live, except I definitely sprinkled in about 10 swear words between the incoherent "bah! badabadAH!'s"

He also can go a long time without letting the listener know the score, which is a huge no-no in my book.

In his first year, once I was listening to the game driving home from work. He never said the score even once during my 25 minute commute. Even though he has improved and does give the score more often now... he still sucks at it.

He is pretty terrible on the radio, but he also has to babysit booner, so he has a lot on his plate during the games. If he would just quit trying to make up catch phrases he would be a lot less laughable, but I would also laugh at him a lot less. All in all, he is a pretty decent radio personality who knows his stuff, but tries way to hard whilst calling the actual games.

That miss was pretty much our chances of the playoffs going up in flames. Give the guy a break.

Losing that NO game was our playoff hopes going up in flames pretty much. Even if we win in Memphis, we still lost that Hornets game we should have won. Not that I am angry. I think it is in our best interest to keep our pick.

I think Locke is one of the better radio hosts around (I often disagree w/his opinions but he does put alot of time and work into his research and really stays up on what is happening around the league) but that doesn't translate into being a competent play-by-play announcer where in my opinion he's dreadful and breaks Rule #1 which is not to annoy a large chunk of your audience.
He can't hold Hot Rod's jock but who can? Locke is what he is...if you like what he brings - cool...if you don't - then stop listening to him when he's on.

False.

We lost the playoffs when we lost to Minny, lost to Sacramento (at home), and lost to NO (TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

If just our corpses show up to those games, we win by 20+.

Instead... We somehow (mystery of the universe) SOMEHOW found ways to crap games away against those abortions. Unbelievable.
