This game was lost in the first quarter like a lot of our games lately. It seems like D-will got frustrated with players not being where he thought they should be. I think he had 3 turnovers in the first quarter off passes where he anticipated a player doing something and they didn't.
I think all of these slow starts are getting to D-Will because the previous Jazz teams he played with dominated the first quarter and ran a very sharp offense. I know it is on the rest of the Jazz to learn the offense better but I feel like D-Will sort of wants everybody to adapt to him and the Jazz system rather than try to adapt to the new players.
I think this is a big reason why the Jazz start so slow. The new players are focused on running the offense and D-will gets frustrated with them not doing what he wants and then the rest of the team plays worse and so does he. The only two that really have good Chemistry in the starting unit are D-will and Millsap and with Millsap injured it really showed.
Interestingly AK had an awesome game tonight and was the only bright spot. He seems to do well when he fells like the Man. Since everyone was struggling he fill in that role very well and even seemed happy despite being blown out. I think D-will needs to find a way to give other players more ego space.
If D-Will is true leader he will find a way to adapt to the new players and bring out the best in them, develop better chemistry, and not get frustrated so easily.
Thoughts?
