Lol
Did Fabtrey confirm this?
Ha... you are coming to Europe just as I am leaving for the summer.
Florence is nice, but I would rate any of the other places ahead of it. Also, you should consider Assisi.
When visiting Rome, make sure you go to The Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. It's my favorite of the four major basilicas, and it is still modeled after the original Constantine structure.
Enjoy your trip, it sounds fun.
Hahaha. Thank you. We are renting a 5dr Peugot 508. Apparently they're roomy. Hopefully they are. I'm 6'4", brother is 6'2", mom and dad are 5'8" and 5'9".
I am being extremely biased... Florence is nice, but everyone goes there. It is crazy busy and because of that I avoid it unless it is not tourist season. I have become spoiled living in Italy for a year, and I try to avoid the crowds.
Florence will have a TON of tourists... It's a really nice city, but it is expensive. I would only recommend Florence if you wanted to go into some of the museums (The Basilica is really nice, and they have a bridge filled with jewelry shops, and a lot of nice Piazza's - Florence is nice, but everyone knows it is nice).
Assisi will also have a lot of pilgrims (The shrines of two major saints are in Assisi: St. Claire and St. Francis). Both of these towns will be expensive and have a lot of tourists (Assisi is nowhere near as bad as Florence). However, Assisi is an impressive Medieval town on a hill with some fantastic views.
Genoa is right on the Mediterranean and seemed really nice, but I have never spent any time there. I don't think it is a tourist trap, but I could be wrong.
I spent a few days in Lucca and I really enjoyed it, but there is not much to see in the city itself. It is an older city and the city center is still encased in it's medieval wall, but the city is flat and doesn't have the charm of Assisi. Florence is a more impressive city than Lucca and is probably a better city to visit if you are just driving through.
I honestly have never been to Siena, but I have heard great things from a lot of the seminarians who did language study there.
Perugia and Spoleto are also two names that are popping in my head. You have the advantage of being in a car in Italy. You can visit some of those hard to reach Italian towns where you can get the real Italian experience - not just the tourist one.
It's a bummer that I will not be in Rome when you come. I would have given you an amazing tour of the city. Rome has A LOT of things to see.
6'4? Damn you still growing? Can you dunk?
And you should rent Peugeot 807 instead. Diesel will get you 34mls per gallon...remember gas prices in Europe is twice as much as in Canada and probably 2.5 x more than in USA![]()

I think I haven't grown since I hit 20, but I did until that point. I'm basically somewhere between 6'3.75" and 6'4.25" (haven't measured myself in a while. Didn't grow up playing basketball, and I have the ****tiest vert. Cannot dunk at all.
Not in town these times and won't be this weekend.Wow, I am super super bummed that you won't be in Rome when I'm thereI anticipate that I'll come again sans-family in the near future, and it would really fill me with joy to meet up with you
same goes for the Turkish posters-- I vow to check out Turkey sometime soon, and y'all better be in town!
Thanks so much for the heads-up, Mr. Whisky![]()
Are you back? Let's hear the Europe scoop.
I'll give a huge one, with pictures, very soon!! Right now my laptop is busted, and I can't upload my pictures that I took.
