Dallas at Utah--The End is Near

I missed tonights game and a lot of Carrols play in past games because of finals. Is he really that good to justify 44 minutes tonight and big minutes in other games? More so than Burks? Could someone describe his game, what he adds to the team and why he is starting?

Carrol was a beast tonight easily his best game of the year he drove to the hoop hit outside shots in clutch moments, played tough defense. He deserved every minute he got tonight.

We have a very favorable schedule the rest of the way. We play three teams playing with out their star players, and the suns. Were due to beat them at least once right?

Honestly I felt good about the 5 guys that were in. The jazz dominated all three overtime periods. The jazz looked strong through out overtime.

While I agree the Jazz played well in the overtimes, you do realize that two of them ended in a tie, right? How is that dominating?

Carrol hustles more and plays smarter defense. He can also guard SF's and is our only SF on the roster other than Hayward, who is the starting SG.

Favors had 5 fouls, that's why he didn't play much. Corbin wanted to save him in case Milsap or Al got fouled out. It was a smart decision IMO.

Personally, I don't get that. How is that different than Favors fouling out of the game? It's like Corbin gave Favors his 6th foul instead of the refs. Weird that a coach would do that.

He deserved every minute of it. In fact, I thought Ty kept him out too long in the 4th.
He had a big hand in that game for us with a key offensive rebound, a double team on Dirk, and he could've won it earlier if he didn't step out of bounds to keep the ball in. Just a lot of hustle plays. Always in position to rebound. He didn't shoot a ton in the overtimes because we kept going to Paul and Al, but whenever he shot, it was a good shot. He did make a couple mistakes, but just overall his hustle was huge when everyone was running on empty.

I get where you're coming from, but if Milsap fouls out in OT, then we're doomed if Favors is also fouled out. That's the way I look at it.

Also, if Favors fails to shut down Dirk, we just lose a lot of offensive production by sitting whoever we did. It's a gamble either way. Play Favors and have better D, but worse offense. Or keep Sap/Jefferson worse d, but better offense.

Great win.

Some random thoughts:

Al was a total stud tonight.
Dirk is the biggest bitch in the NBA. I hate him with a white hot passion.
WTF was that Delonte West thing about? And why didn't Ty send in Kanter to give him a nice flagrant sometime in the 3rd?
Sap was just getting abused. It was painful to see, though he did make some critical shots at the end.
The refs were just atrocious, for both sides. Extremely bad. I hope those jokers don't ref any games in the playoffs, because until OT that was a very poor basketball game to watch.

agree that favors was having a problem with fouls, but while he was on the floor, dirk was having a tougher time scoring. it helps a bunch when you can guard dirk straight up and not send help every single time.

i'm not even going to complain about al tonight. on the offensive side, you all know i don't love the 28-points-on-25-shots nights (and his shot selection was at times iffy), but when a guy plays that hard and grabs 9 more rebounds than all dallas' starters combined, he gets a free pass from me just based on effort.

carroll was good, yes, but in a game with 15 extra minutes, i don't understand why nobody outside the starting five got more than jamaal's 18 minutes. it would be easier to make that argument if burks didn't have a crappy night (0-for-6 from the field). but still, carroll over-hepled a lot on D, allowing several of those wide open 3s. still, gotta give him credit for the late board and for lots of hustle.

devin was absolutely huge, and it's nice to see gordon take big steps and be considered more and more one of the vets. and paul, while having his lunch eaten by dirk's drive-and-dishes, played huuuuge defense on that last 3 by dirk, and was quietly a very complete guy tonight.

as for the hayward-west thing, i for one don't find a lot of value in the "punch him to show you're a man" argument. how does it help the jazz to have hayward (or one of his teammates standing up for him) suspended for the rest of the season? sometimes you have to take your aggression out on the other team by beating them, not by beating them up. the other route is just counterproductive. you wanna send a message? beat them, make the playoffs.
