Dallas at Utah--The End is Near

First off the title, "the end is near" is awefull. And you call yourself a fan? Shame on you. I have never gave G Hayward credit for anything I don't think. But he did a great job in tonights game. Talk about giving it your everything. And it was mostly done away from the ball. Great effort tonight by Hayward.

IIrc I Like the guy that started this thread. But it is proper that he gets back in here to props the team.

as for the hayward-west thing, i for one don't find a lot of value in the "punch him to show you're a man" argument. how does it help the jazz to have hayward (or one of his teammates standing up for him) suspended for the rest of the season? sometimes you have to take your aggression out on the other team by beating them, not by beating them up. the other route is just counterproductive. you wanna send a message? beat them, make the playoffs.

...but that's NOT the hip hop way! When you get dissed, you MUST take it out physically on the opponent....by slapping him, spitting on him or in extreme cases, capping their butt!

...by the way, speaking of capping, wasn't West busted one time for possession of firearms....like a WHOLE arsenal of stuff???

carroll was good, yes, but in a game with 15 extra minutes, i don't understand why nobody outside the starting five got more than jamaal's 18 minutes.
This has been one of my issues with the playoff push. In theory we're trying to get there to introduce the young team to the postseason, but I worry that they REALLY young players (except Hayward) won't even play by that time.

I don't think he needs to punch anyone, but he needs to stand his ground and not turn to the ref looking for help. Go chest to chest with the guy, push back a little. He did the same thing with Barea...turned and looked for the ref to help him.

Another thing I haven't seen mentioned or reported (by any official news outlet, only in comments on YouTube, etc.). As West poked Hayward, he said what seems to be "bitch *** white boy."

Pretend the roles were reversed. Any idea what would be the fallout if Hayward called West "bitch *** black boy" (or worse) during an altercation? To me the statement is the bigger story, but nobody is talking about it. The finger thing was weird, but honestly I thought it was pretty tame.

....I think we need to get Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakhan involved, don't you?!!!

I was at the game I was hoping they'd replay this on the jumbo tron but they never did, will have to go to youtube and see for myself.

It's a good thing Millsap has done well in the past in the clutch cause last night and the past few he has come up small in the 4th Qtr. Last night he did have the big put back dunk to send it to OT but man I don't know if he's having a rough time or if it was using all his energy trying to be physical with Dirk (even though Dirk lit him up) but to me it seemed Millsap was brutal last night.

When the Jazz missed those FT's (Haward's T, Harris missed and one and then a few possessions later Millsap missed one) I thought no way the Jazz could still win, glad they showed heart and fight as well as didn't hang their heads and get down on themselves to somehow pull out a victory.

Also I didn't see it posted in this or any other thread so sorry if I missed it but here is the Delonte West and Hayward incident. He definitely looks like he said something not very nice at the end.

One thing I noticed is every time Al or Millsap touched the ball they got double teamed. Millsap isn't used to getting doubled every time he gets the ball. Also I thought he struggled with the Mavs length.

....well, as we all know, white guys can irritate "hopper" types and bait them into technicals and other activities that violate the rules! But West didn't get a tech on this one, right? Even after the refs went to the replay?

After the review West did get a tech yes, unfortunately Hayward missed the technical FT, sadly I think the Jazz have the lowest tech FT % in the league.... somebody go look that up I'm way to lazy.

yeah... i said a while ago that i'd rather the jazz MISS the playoffs with gordon, derrick, alec and enes playing a bigger role than MAKE the playoffs with howard and miles playing 40 minutes each and those guys buried. we've gotten what we wanted on the hayward front, and to a lesser degree derrick. i realize you can't play guys who haven't earned it and maintain credibility, but it seems like with a roster down to 10-11 healthy dudes, there should be opportunities for kanter or burks to occasionally cross the 20-minute barrier.

nah, i think in this situation he knew exactly what he was doing. the two had been embroiled in a bit of a physical battle for a few minutes and i think hayward knew that if he kept at it physically, west would take himself out of the game.

you're absolutely right about the racist comment, though. we're all chuckling at maybe the silliest display of in-game anger that any of us have seen, and forgetting that almost simultaneously, an unacceptable racial comment was made.
