What's new

Dame Time

I wasn't aware that NBA seasons were only 61 games. How much do you want to bet the Cavs will finish with a better record, better offensive rating, and better defensive rating than they had last year?
Not much, because as I already pointed out, their final two months of the season were crippled by injury.

Pure record isn't too much better, but statistics show that this team is much, much better than last year's surprise team.
I wonder how many times people have to be told that the Cavs overall statistics plummeted last year when their last 2 months were crippled by injury.

Jesus Christ, my 5 year old niece latches onto points quicker than this.

So in your estimation Donovan didn't make them better, I guess they remained the same.

But thankfully they didn't leverage their future for someone like Rudy who immediately would've made them worse. I'm still waiting for them to be a top 2 seed and contender like you were preaching about all offseason.

Who brought up Gobert? I know I didn't.

I was thrilled from Day 1 for the haul we got for Gobert and never really looked back. I wish guys like Lopo and Jefe could do the same with Mitchell, but alas, they went from "Why can't we just appreciate the players we have" after the Gobert trade to crying relentlessy over losing Mitchell.

I'm fine with the Donovan trade, I love Lauri. But to say the Cavs aren't better this year with him is a stretch and wouldn't be your first bad take in regards to a former Jazz player, aka when you preached about how great the Wolves would be with Rudy.

?

The Cavs are better this year. Just not enough to justify the haul they traded away.

You and Lopo both seem to need the same points repeated to you a lot.

I don't think they considered it a "haul" outside of the draft capital, but that's just the price of acquiring a star player.

Lauri averaged 14 ppg on 44% FG and was an awkward fit next to Mobley / Allen
Sexton was coming off of an injury plagued year, was an awkward fit with Garland, and had basically 0 market in FA from the Cavs or any other team in the league

They already had a solid young team but they lacked a real #1 scoring threat, Donovan is one of the best scorers in the league.

Obviously they plummeted. Did some quick math and looks like they were just around +5 net rating last season this time, which is a lot better than I was expecting, my memory is they had a much worse expected record before hand. I was entirely wrong. You do come off as a massive ******* though, hope you're doing good

My bad, it just gets exhausting when I have to repeat the same point several times.

Who said championship?

I think the odds of being relevant with Donovan Mitchell are as good as being relevant with all these draft picks. There's no telling what can happen.

You can keep taking shots at crunch time, but he's still the best playoff performer we've had in a long time. It's too bad we built it all around some limited center instead of clearly a star.
My favorite part of his playoff performances was when he got an 8 second violation in crunch time.

If you can get Lillard for a price that isn't too outrageous, of course you do that. Our stars are on dirt cheap contracts right now, Dame fits perfectly. I like to watch basketball, I'm not concerned with 2028 if I know my team could be very damn good right now with a player I cheer for anyway. I don't follow the NBA to worry about the top high school prospect in 2024. I would hope the Jazz team would employ someone to worry about that for me.

The West is up for grabs. Go get it. I would actual give even odds of this happening.

They're going to want at least 4 unprotected FRPs, likely Kessler/Agbaji and filler.

Danny has said repeatedly that he's trying to build a contender, not a team that caps out at a 2nd round exit. Dame/Lauri would be fun, that's nowhere near enough to win a title.

They aren't getting 4 picks plus two young players. If that is the deal, Dame really isn't available. There is a huge difference getting a 25 year old star on a long contract and Dame on an expensive contract, what Minny paid notwithstanding.

If Dame really wants out, I feel like Portland would take a comparable package from Utah over what another large market competitor may give them because screw those teams.

Kevin Durant is 34 going on 35 and just got traded for a haul, Rudy is a deeply flawed player and just got traded for a haul as well and he's 30.

If Dame wants to get traded I can almost guarantee that the Blazers are going to work with him to send him somewhere that he wants to be. The Nets just took less for Durant from Memphis to send him to his preferred destination.
